BMWFanatics Track Day?

15 - 20 sec interval between cars leaving, and do 3 or 4 laps maybe.

If we can get 30 cars we can have 3 groups of 10, doing a session.

How do they usually run cars at Redstar?

But, regardless of format, will we actually get 30 cars that will be willing to put down R1000, and maybe non refundable at that?

I am actually not how they have done cars before. Will have to find that out as well.

I honestly doubt even 10 people would want to pay R1000 for the day. If we can get a big group involved we should try and run it like the VW Track days. R50 or R100 entry fee and if you want to race it's an additional R500 or something like that?

It's going to have to be a balance between getting a big group involved to keep the costs low and not having too many people and too little time to let everyone run.

Guys am I the only one that doesn't see a problem with taking a day off work?

The quoted price of 15K has now doubled to 30K?

I can organize a Sunday for us, but then he wants numbers. He wants to know how many will be there. Like I said, it has to be worth it for him. So 30k was just a safe number I'd say? He might still be happy with 15. But, we need numbers

That makes sense I guess... twice the price for a Sunday, but also more likely to get enough people to actually make it happen. I'm cool with either, a Thursday or a Sunday. Couldn't we get guidance from Michael Broom at bmw club to give us some guidance on the structure? they handle a lot more people for a similar price. If we have it all day, we can have way more than 30 people, each getting a few 20 minute sessions on the track, no?
With this track and this kind of event, we'd surely be doing time trials and not races? the risk of wrecking your daily driver/weekend toy is quite high if we race I think.

Full on racing is a no go.
Track day rules, you pass only on the straight.
No out-breaking / dive bombing into corners.
Depending on the numbers cars split up into groups based on actual performance. Basically if you're the fastest guy on the track you go into the faster session and if you're the slowest you drop into the slower session. Pretty straightforward.

What I would like to see added that is that if you have a car in your mirrors and you cant shake him for 2 laps, lift off and let him through, even if you are faster down the straight.

Maybe we need a poll to get some numbers?

There we go. And a Poll seems like the best indication of interest

Like all track days we race/compare by class. Something like 4 cyl NA, 6 cyl NA, 4 cyl forced induction, 6 cyl forced induction and then diesel. Or something like that.

Exactly.

Thanks for organising Gizmo, you can send us entry forms, dates and banking details and we are good to go.

Red star is only for bikes

I saw on TV the other day that the Historic Cars or the those Lotus replicas will be racing there sometime.

It's not far about a 30 min drive from Boksburg on the N12 just past Delmas

How do track days work with insurance?
