Hi All

New to the site. Own a 76 530MLE no 21 off the floor. Currently restoring it from the ground up. Looking for others who own this model or have spares for this car. So far body has been stripped to shell, proffesionally sandblasted and full respray underway.Engine was stripped and completely rebuilt, Where available new parts have been used, spares are hard to find although spares from other E12 fit. Rebuilt carbs, original magnesium rims restored, suspension fully stripped and restored.I am looking for a carpet in good condition. I have various extra spares obtained from a second 530mle i bought, stripped and scrapped. (Front smash)

Also own 335i, 1 x 2002ti, 2 x 2002 and 1 x 1600. I also have my current car I want to sell. 2008 530i, Tit silver, antracite interior, sportspack. This is the later 200kw motor with revised lights, auto park, elec seat and steering wheel. 74000km with motorplan. Very clean, looked after by a BM fan. R350000.

You seriously need to post pics of all your cars and of this project of yours.

You could contact Adi or Classicman on this forum they have lots to do with classic BMW and might be able to help you out.

Its good work you are doing here keeping a classic on the road, even though BMW would rather that people just buy new cars.

Nice to build the classisc but damn expensive. 530MLE is standing at around R85000 and around about 80% to completion. By then I will be on bread and water...

I hope to have 530 done for car show at the Vaal in Sept or at least drivable. Next I start to tackle the 2002ti. 3rd car for restoration is a 1600 (2002 shape) which I want to insert a 4cyl 318is motor and gearbox. My other 2 x 2002's are for spares and scrapping.

Hey Luis. There was a Chappy with that model 530, on our Breakfast run not so long ago with BMW colour stripes. Have a pic pf it.

i really have to respect the work and hardship that goes into it...

you are crazy :) but i cant wait to see your pics im sure they are awesome

Bear with me still struggling with upload of photos, but getting there. Get the hang of it soon.

The engine and suspension pics plus pic of the 530 MLE at spray shop.
My 335 and 530i. The red 2002 the day I picked it up, complete with UNO steering wheel, ford mags and bits and pieces from other makes. Since then its been stripped to the shell, rebuild of engine, suspension and everything else with some tricks. Impi light magnesium wheels, leather interior and colour still to be decided.

The 530MLE was bought by my dad in 78 from a privateer racer, used almost everyday untill 2004. (135000km). Dad sold it to some dude (neva got full payment so kept the docs) , dude resold it, new owner resold it with no one ever registering the car (no reg papers). I traced the owner via the cops and bought it back (he had no choice i had the original reg papers) in 2007. Car was in very bad state. I stripped the car in 2009 to bare shell and last bol and slowly started restoration.

Anything that needed painting, glavanising, nickelplating, chroming, powdercoating, replacing has been done.

Hoping to be finsished with assembly by July 2011.

Yip restoring cars is not for everyone, but there must be some of keeping classics going so we can show them. One day you can let your kids see and touch an M3 , not see it in a pic. Depends if we will still ahve fuel to run cars ..lol.

The 530MLE was bought by my dad in 78 of a racing privateer. Used everyday till mid 2002. Kept in the backyard and sold in 2004. My dad kept the papers untill he was fully paid which he never was. Car was resold 3 more times and never registered because my dad had the papers. By a stroke of luck dude stopped next to me at a robot (20070 and I offered to buy the car. He didnt really have a choice.. I had the reg papers.



My dad bought the car in 78, it was used everyday and eventually put to pasture in the backyard in 2002. My dad sold the car keeping back the reg papers untill the guy paid the balance, he never did and the guy resold it. 3 more owners later by a stroke of luck the last owner stopped at a robot next to me (2007). I offered to buy the car back.

2009 I started stripping the car and its now at the re-assemble stage. Car comes back from the paint shop next weekend and then the careful work starts. Engine is rebuilt with just about everything replaced, re-galvanised, re-plated, re-painted- re-powdercoated. Same for the suspension, steering, brakes system. Everthing has been stripped down to last bolt, cleaned to be re-used or replaced.

Only things left to be done is upholstery, rooflining and carpets.

Can help with a few bits and pieces. Was just in the process of stripping a 530MLE its standing here in Wynberg / Sandton Area. The engine is still here, and some body bits and pieces, maybe PM me and tell me what you looking for. Have also got a number of other contacts for E12 spares......

Im looking for carpets, the plastic boot covers over the wheel arches, cardboard backing behind the rear seats in the boot.
Jack, wheel spanner, and there is a long cover over the lights from the one side of the boot to the other side on the inside of the boot.
Also front spoiler.
And if the oil cooler and fitting are still in, that would also help.

Carpets are in shocking condition, they are blue......
What is still there:
- back seat in blue, with headrests, needs a good vacuum hahahahaha
- the towbar for that car.......
- parcel shelf in the back

No plastic boot covers on that one...however...have a restored set, that I tested out before I did mine, as a trial, this is what they look like.......

Have a small toolbox, and some tools......

Also still have a radio that come from 1974 and period fits, not sure if these BMW's had them in, if you interested can test, should be working, but thats unconfirmed.

Will send you Paul's details he is the "owner" of the 530MLE........if you interested in any of the bits and pieces, still has the complete engine too



as far as the boot cover is concerend have that one at home, grey, with two holes on the sides, for fastening against the tail lights, have one! Will have to dig for the two grey round screws, but can get some for you later, from a friend in CT

And thinking about it, can help you with 4x mint Pinoneer speaker covers....

Uli Sanne's 530mle was sold at Zwartkops Cars in the Park this year. The new owner lives in the Bedfordview area.

I stripped a mle a few months back. It was rotten and not worth rebuilding as it had already been rebodied before. I sold the boot spoiler and wheel spats to a guy in Midrand that was restoring a car as well. I still have his contact details.

I only kept the dog-leg box, lsd and Scheel seats from the car.

Uli's was nice, not too fond of the Gold mags though.

Im actually looking for the sheel badges on the seats and front spoiler.

Send me his details if possible. I know there is info a another car in Kempton I think, but owner doesnt want to tell me ZERO about the car.

Here is the one currently being stripped.......eingine still there, spoiler gone overseas.....and the back parcel shelf and seat as well as headrest is still there and in surprizingly good nic....

true, but too far gone to try and do a restore......very rusted....all the bits and pieces went to good homes, some even overseas........
