BMW135i vs Golf 6 R

hi guys i would like everyones honest opinion on this. i know that this is a BMW site but please read what i have to say and then comment. just because you have a 135i and you think its amazing doesnt mean its the best for my application. i am first and foremost a bmw fanatic and i would love to own a 135 but there are certain things that i need out of my next car.
so here goes: i currently have a 130i with mpack. i just moved into a new house which has a very steep incline where the drive way meets the road. therefore i am kaking bricks every time i leave the house and every time i come home to get in and out without scrapping the front bumper. unless i get it perfect and i mean 100% perfect it scrapes. i have just had the bumper sprayed back to normal and im gonna sell the 130 now so i cant use it at all basically. ive also got the previous renault megane sport, which im now using everyday because it has no problem going up and down the drive way. i know that if i get a 135 im going to have this issue again where as i dont think its gonna be as much of an issue with the golf.
2nd i have noticed that this type of vw has an extraordinary capability of retaining second hand value, look at the R32 and vr6 as an example. where as the 135 seem to loose much more value especially when the coming to the end of their motorplan and when out of motorplan.
3rd i am quite young, not extremely young but btw 25 and 30. even in my 130 i get these looks all the time from people that hate me just because of the car i drive. for some reason if your young and you drive a bmw people think your just a spoilt brat, which i am not. the golf is much more subtle than the BMW and to the majority of people on the road they just see it as another golf.
last but definitely not least i was held up and shot inside my previous home for my car. obviously i dont want to go through that again and it seems like driving a bmw just attracts a lot of unnecessary attention. i reckon it wont be as bad in the vw? i might also be considering the new Megane cup, ive driven one before and i can tell you that it is amazing!!!!
it also seems like modded vws can reach insane levels with minimum input.
so ya thats it then. any educated thoughts would be appreciated.

But from what i read, it seems like you care about what people think, a lot... so just want to let you know as long as you are happy with your car, that's the most important.

I personally think people gonna know what car you drive anyways, regardless is a 135 or VW R, they gonna know or find out how much it cost etc etc. So unless you don't want any attention, get a Geely or GWM haha

ok firstly your statement makes sense.... congrats on the new house and it does seem like your mind is made up on the VW

The first statement I put in bold... its true you care alot about what people think... people give you those looks cause they prob think you dont deserve such a nice car and your a spoilt brat but at the end of the day you sitting in your lovely bmw and they not so they just feeling alil bit jealous. if you worked hard for it then you deserve it... so screw them.

2nd statement last time I checked VW is number one high risk car in S.A... no matter what Vw. @ the end of the day if the BLIKSEMS want it they will take it no matter what you have...

Goodluck though with making the choice btw I must say the interior build of the GTI R is truely epic so you will enjoy that.

Isn't it possible to modify the drive so that there where it meets the road it is less steep?

In terms of the choice, flip a coin, and when the coin is in the air, you will know what to go for, cause you will know what you are hoping the outcome to be :grin:

I was faced with a similar dilemma as to which car to choose a short while ago.

I had the S3 8P (facelift) and it was time to trade it in. I test drove the Golf R and it was as good as my S3 (no surprises). I was focused on the VW and had the VW dealership not given me the run-around I would probably be driving one now. :ty: VW for being complete idiots ... it made me look elsewhere.

I decided to test drive the 135i (I was not the biggest BMW fan - Audi fans usually aren't) and everything changed the minute I sat in it and drove it. I now understand BMW fans. To say "the 135i is a million times better than both the R and the S3" is probably an understatement! Audi service is also the worst I have ever experienced.

If you buying a car based on what people think of you, then go with your gut feel and get the R ... if you buying a car based on driving pleasure at all levels, get the 135i ! :inlove:

thanks for the different views guys.:thumbs: not to sure how difficult it would be to modify the driveway but i've got a friend whos a builder so i'll get his opinion on it. i think im gonna weigh out the pros and cons for a little while longer, dont wanna make the wrong choice.

Sell the house .... Get the 135 and the Golf R then buy a smaller house with a flat driveway:=):

Seriously though .. drive both cars back to back and decide which you prefer and then sort the steep driveway out to accomodate the 135i.

lol .. i also went to vw to look at the R and the service i got and response from the salesmen i gave them a wrong number haha ...The test drive wasnt bad ... but the comfort u get sitting in a bmw is on a other level ..
I went to bmw and fell in love .. i think u shud maybe getting the driveway right not to scratch .. then u dont need to worry ...
But whatever u choose ... we accept u :thumbs::rollsmile:

why a vw r?nothing wrong with it but its a modded gti,so why not buy a gti and do the mods on it.

personally would go for the bm,better service at a bm dealer than vw.

hi jackings can happen to anybody,if they want your car they take it,once saw a guy shot 15 times for a nissan 1400,and not one of the panels were the same colour(was 1 block away from alex)

Up to very recently, the G5 GTi was considered the highest risk for hi-jack in SA.
You will be the one driving it, so go and test both and make up your own mind. Forget about other people.

I would also just get the driveway fixed. I checked the stats on both cars and the 135i have a ground clearance of 147mm whereas the Golf sits at 132mm but you would probably also need to consider how long the nose of each car is. Either way I think you would have the same issue with both cars.

The GTI is a fun car to drive but I prefer the drive in the BMW (and the fact that it's quite a bit faster). Whatever you pick you will still end up with a good car, the only way to tell is to drive them, everyone has their own opinion.

In my opinion, if I had R420k to drop on a car...it wouldn't be on a Golf :rollsmile:

I will rather spend a few thousand depending on the seriousness of the drive and do some "cut and fill" on the drive and then buy the car I want and not be influenced by a badly designed drive to choose a car.
Had an Audi before and never want c@#p in my drive ever again.
You will never go wrong with the 135.
