BMW X3 2.0 diesel - hesitant on pull away

Hi there

I am a brand new user, but been driving beemers for a while.

Current ride: BMW x3 2005 2.0 diesel

Problem: When pulling away, there is a hesitation in power between idle rev speed and about 1300RPM, there after the turbo works fine.

My research has pointed to towards the mass air flor meter as the cause of the issue. Watches a few youtube videos on how to clean the MAF and bought the spray stuff to clean it.

But when I opened the hood, I realised that I dont have the "typical" air filter in the big square box, instead have a more oval shaped air filter.

But I can't find the mass air flow meter. I am no mechanic, so forgive my ignorance...

It is just in front of your air cleaner, but out side the box. Two screws from the front with a connector on it. From there normally a plastic pipe goes down to your turbo intake. Hope that helps.

I will have a look later this afternoon again. Hopefully I can get this issue resolved. The car is nearing 200k km and I was/am VERY close to getting rid of it. It is such a great looking car, would be sad to let it go. I will write back with some news if I manage to find it and hopefully get it resolved.

In the meantime, if anyone has some pics or can share a link to a youtube video of this process - it would be GREATLY appreciated. Like I mentioned, all the videos I found online is for the petrol MAF, the diesel is different and by the looks of things, more difficult! :blueCry:

It's not difficult at all, loosen the plastic turbo pipe, 2 x torque head bolts, pull it away a bit then loosen the two torque screws, don't forget to take the plug off. My X3 has close to 450k on it now, best car I've ever owned, and I've had a few!

So I disconnected the maf sensor and I now have my X3 back the way I remember it! I will try to loosen the screws again but I cant seem to find the right tool! Thanks for the great advise..:clapper:

Are there any serious repercussions to leaving maf sensor disconnected? My car is going to my local mechanic in 2 weeks for a service, I will ask him to clean maf when it goes in.
