BMW spare wheel or mobility kit?

So having just bought an e90 while owning both an e36 and e46 at the same time, some of the (minor but not so minor) drawbacks of the new ride are becoming more evident, more notably the absence of a spare wheel.

Since the car will be the wifes daily and with the state of our roads, i would prefer to have some sort of safety mechanism in case of a tyre related incident. Enter the two options, each with there own set of challenges:
1) sparewheel kit - reduced boot space
2) mobility kit - read mixed reviews on reliability and effectiveness

Would just like to gauge opinions of which option would be a better? Or any other option i may have overlooked?

for a "wife"s car....mobility kit

single women should not be stopping anywhere to do a wheel change, there is too much danger involved.

rather drive to the nearest populated and safe area, and take it from there

Space-saver! Mobility kit is good for simple punctures, but no good if the tyre and wheel is damaged. And for the mobility kit, just invest in a good MotoQuip 12V mini Air compressor and a can of goo... :thumbs:

I have heard this corrodes rims and can lead to other problems like air leaking from the tyre.

The safest option is to keep the RFTs on if its for your wife.

Well, the idea is to get you home safely, but I personally would have the tyre removed and have the puncture properly repaired with a mushroom plug (assuming that the puncture is not too close to the tread shoulder), and then clean the inevitable mess on the rim etc.

The spare wheel is a must imo....
a bit off topic, but does anyone know where to get the bmw spare wheel kit from besides dealers? looking around and they seem scarce. Agents want R5800 for the kit. that's ridiculous

Just look on gumtree, junkmail and olx. There were about 5 for sale when I bought mine.
