I am sorry...oi...

It is a 1987 316i...E30 model. The carburetor is dead...when I idle it dies, and the whole engine vibrates when i idle(if it does not die). I have to jump start while changing gears and going around a corner..anyhow...mm I am currently using LRP fuel, car needs a service(service light went on)...

I need a new carburetor(well you dont get them new, need a new 2nd hand one). I am in Somerset West.

You are going to battle with that...

Why dont you try and have it serviced, there are still guys out there that does carb servicing. I know of somebody in JHB..

Issue is with a scrapyard unit, its going to be wrecked as well, all of the seals will be dried up, and then ur going to be sitting in exactly the same boat with more paperweights..

There is someone here in Strand I think that does...but so many of these guys dont like working on BM's and BMW is just to expensive...will look into it.

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE, try comparing to the likes of toyota etc, BMW's are mild.

They just quoted me R500+ just to diagnose the problem with my car...I rest my case.:censored:

Pierburg Carburettor for 318 M10 - allisbmw
I'm having trouble a getting my BMW 318 M10 to idle properly.
When it's warm the engine hunts, like it cannot find its medium. I have recently had the motor overhauled and the mechanic who took it apart did not take note of where the vacuum pipes went thus I'm unable to drive the car until I can resolve this problem as too little REVS causes the car to cut out when approaching traffic lights, etc. Just to mention, the two jets on the very top of the carb do not seem to be working correctly as no fuel seems to ever come out of them. I'm not sure if this is a result of the vacuum pipes not being in their correct positions. Just for a description, it has a big white electric module on the left side if you are standing over the cylinder head on the drivers side. Is it possible you have a diagram of this carburettor that can possibly enable me to return these vacuum pipes to their correct positions? I believe the carb is a Pierburg 2B4 model if I'm not mistaken. Any assistance would be appreciated.

yeah the pierburg carb is a terible carb the automatic choke goes wroung with them eventaually most people change them for a webber. im replacing mine with webber 32/36 at the monent fitting it to a solex bmw intake manifold. this carb doesnt fit the zenith pierburg stud patten hence using the solex manifold as fitted to pre 1980 carb 4cyl models from around early 70's. but you can get a 32/34 webber replacement carbwww.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=12. the revs on mine at idle often flutute occationally stalling if not reved. the choke mecanism is partly stuck on so scrapped its mot emishions this year so thought id fit webber carb. il have a look a vacume lines but really complex on them.

pity we cant understand this but it's got pics:

I found a weber carb with manifold and everything else taken from an e30 316 for r350 which seems like a good possibility. Now the really confusing thing to me is that every mechanic insists that my vehicle shouldn't even have a carburetor since it's a fuel injected 'i' model. Can anybody clarify how it is that I actually have a carb in an 'i' series vehicle?

'87 316i was a carbed model...... Had one.

BMW M10. The legend.

Worked really well with a Weber conversion if I recall, however, why dont you consider an injection conversion???!!! I mean, if you are messing around with old oily things in yards...

Can find any E12 with an M10 and the conversion will be fairly straightforward.

No more cold start issues, more power, way better fuel economy...... And if I remember, most of the plumbing is already there.....

Just my 2c worth....
