I agree with Kabal about not giving out the info

In a hospital scenario, you aren't actually purchasing anything, so can you compare the 2?

Personal info is personal info, and should not be divulged without the owner's consent.

If I receive a kidney I really would like to know where it's been and how it was serviced.......

1stly, if you need a kidney, you wont care where its from, you will just be happy that there is one available.

2ndly, they don't tell you who and where the donor is from.

I think we are going off point here, the facts are;

No one, and I really mean not a single person in this thread has advocated the divulging of anyone's personal information. In what language is one's medical history or their ID number for that matter not personal ?

If you read my replies you'll notice that it seems to have been an isolated case as I've subsequently had no problems in getting the service history and comments (not the owners details) from BMW SA for 2 other cars.

So, in summing up, it seems that if I, or anyone else for that matter, is some sort of crazed BMW service history and coments collector am busy trawling the parking lots of office parks and shopping malls, I can simply jot down the last 8 digits of your VIN and send them off to BMW SA and they'll send me the service history and comments page (but not your personal details).

IMO - that's a good thing and is one of the contributing factors why we choose BMW's vs other car makers.

EXACTLY what I have been saying...

I REALLY dont mind my cars service history being give to someone, as long as NONE of my personal details are on there...

Anyway, there are SOOOOO many other ways to trace your details from your cars numberplate, that going the bmw service history root is kinda stupid... :fencelook:

Just have a friend in BMW and they will sort you out with the CARS details only!

That's what I did when I bought the E46 M3. I have a friend at Leo Haese BMW centurion that gave me the history. Prev owners accident history the works... It's not what you know its who you know

Hi all

Just on the topic of getting info lemme do my first post in oct 2011 I bought an e46 330d two previous owners. The car had 135000kms on fsh but only the first service is stamped in the book I was a little bit weary as I was told it was in a accident but damage was not much etc. I asked the seller if I can get the vin number and check it out. I went to a BMW dealership to enquire and simply asked if its possible to verify details. I got a full printout with first owners details as showing in service book every service checked out up till end of motor plan incl accident. The print out only divulged first owners name nothing else..only the service book showed it in front. It added piece of mind to life also contacting the person who serviced the car after warranty to date to get the rest of the info :praise:. I also took a chance rang up BMW SA I was told same info as per print out over the phone..no sweat was expecting PT but happy days....

Cheers all

I think firstly the person you speak to, and secondly the way you speak to them, makes a big difference in if you are going to get the info or not. :dunno:

Interesting thread.

I purchased my e90 1 year ago. I know the the car has fsh with SMG in Ballito, When i went to BMW Supertech in Durban and asked if they could do a print out for the services or any comments i was told they can but it will only be for any services that were done by them at Supertech. Any other services done by other BMW centres like SMG i will need to go to that specific dealer to get that info.

Guess different dealers have different ways of working.

Any services done after motor-plan expiry will only show at the dealer where it was done.

Anything done on plan will reflect on the CIA report, which any dealer can access.

If i am selling my car, and I object to BMW giving out any service or comment related issues they have recorded, then OBVIOUSLY I AM TRYING TO HIDE SOMETHING, which I want the new owner to only discover after he has handed over the cash to me.

You wanna buy my car, take me and my car to BMW, and get them to download any information and comments, (with my owner consent) depending on what transpires from the BMW report, we can renegotiate the purchase price privately.

or walk away
swiftly

What i did, took the car for a test drive, stopped at the nearest BMW dealer, gave them the keys and promptly asked them for when the next service interval will be, they printed it out, no hassles, then asked them to print the service history for me, to see if i missed anything, they gladly printed it out for me, still have the documents and today owning that very same car.
