I've enquirer about this intake at 3 dealers in JOHANNESBURG and they ALL say that it I not available for my car (E90 330i Pre Lci)

They one reason I can think it is not listed is that we have the euro spec model and it won't do much to our cars. In the US it would make more of a difference but not much added to our cars.

If anyone knows otherwise, please let me (us) know!

Thanks

Yep, the US models have a different filter and intake with a carbon element after the filter pad which is very restrictive apparently, so one of their mods over there is the carbon element delete, or then the Euro filter retrofit. So yes, for us it is probably only going to make a very slight improvement, but it really does look good, so aesthetically desirable! :inlove:

Hi all,

Funny seeing my old post revived. I'll try to answer all the questions.

It is still fitted to my car, and I still enjoy it. It's helluva expensive though. You really need to be passionate about this type of "OEM mod" to follow through with it, as there are not really any significant gains or benefits of the stock intake. But hey, I am passionate / idiotic, lol.

The gains aren't that big. On the couple of dynos I've been to, it was the strongest N52 BMW on the day (Once at RGM, and then once at KAR I think). But like I say, not by much. Not even worth opening the can of worms to debate that one :nonono:

I know BMW did make intakes for the 328i which was sold in the US (2.8l motor), and I'm certain they make one for the european 330i's. Just do a little more research on the net. I know the difference between mine and the 330i intake is a different inlet tract from the snorkels to the airbox.

Regarding coat-it, I enquired with them about coating the plastic airbox lid. They wanted R2500 odd. So I decided to pass on that. That being said, my el-cheapo carbon wrap has loosened at the corners and in the bends. But I'll rather pay R250 for a length of 3M vinyl which should be much better than the chinese stuff sold at performance outlets....

I've spent the past year on my Corsa Ute project, so my 130i now rests a lot more often. Probably do about 500kms a month in it these days.

Glad you still have her! A year or so ago I saw a similar BMW Performance intake which looked roughly the same, but the airbox cover WAS carbon too and had a nice aluminium portion extending from the intake pipe which had the BMW Performance lettering/logo on it. Sheer porn! Again, more of a cosmetic and aural enhancement than anything else.
