BMW parts prices....again!

as a general rule of thumb, when buying spares for my beemers specific, i first get a price from the stealers, then from midas/autozone, then see what price i can find it for on the net..

prices can vary dramatically between the three. (service items can sometimes be competitively priced, the rest are just crazy prices mostly)

for my nissans, i dont even bother calling the stealers for a price.. i just go straight to the net.
there are worse stealers than bmw stealers..

I need to look into this club card thing.

Strange how pricing works, on my e24 the service kit was R20 more at the stealers than Midas. But a thermostat at stealers R545 and got one at gold wagen for R89.

I really don't know why there is no standard at BMW, all Merc parts prices are set buy Head Office, so all dealers charge the same the only diff could be labor.

My other car is a merc and their parts prices are all decently logical and rational, you can see they have thought it out properly. What I really do like is high failure items are priced virtually at cost as well as stuff for old cars never costs more than the car. And to go on a bit I almost never had to wait for parts from Germany and if I do it's 48 hours flat, every time.

Pity the damn car doesnt go like my BM but still a pleasure to own and service....

Just give it time bud! The heater control valve on the C250TD is a " VERY common failure item" and the thieving f*cking pigs charge R6600 for the thing!!!

It is a plastic valve with two solenoids and if it costs R200 to make its a lot.

the ignition switch is also a common failure item and they charge R12000 for it!!!!!

They have also stopped letting other repair agents get blank keys from them to re-program a new ignition switch so essentially making it impossible for anyone other than merc able to do the repair.

If that is not under handed and dirty I dont know what is!

Merc is just as bad as all the other brands and I promise you, its only a matter of time until you get burned by them.

Yes every brand have those f-ing parts. My friends SL500 needs a new cover around the rear view mirror that houses the reading lights, guess what R4800 incl and has been waiting since November. So yes every dealer is guilty some just more than others. Having said that regardless of which merc dealer he phoned they all give the same price.
