I got a quote for my front crank seal on the Sorento for R173+VAT from the dealer. Went to Bearingman and got it for R50something plus VAT.

That I can handle as it reasonably about covers the R50 seal being packaged specially and kept as dealer stock with a reasonable margin for the dealer's effort.

I wish I could buy milk, print a BMW logo on the bottle and sell it for R500 a liter...... EXACTLY the same concept.

The biggest ripp off yet I have experianced was the price of bmw parts between to of the stealers Pinnacle bmw and eastview in nelspruit
10l of gearbox oil @Pinnacle was R2889
10l of gearbox oil @Eastview was R1440
Same oil even the same stock numbers w.t.f
Sealing sleeve at Pinnacle R1000 odd rands
Sealing sleeve at east view R140 odd rands

I shit you not. I have the invoices the garage I got my car from paid once and then I paid one and claimed my money back after getting a lawyer on the case. And the best is the sleeve for a R1000 odd rand was not even fitted by the cunts but they charged for it , I got the parts back when they did the job for the second time and checked out the production dates stamped on them it was truly unbelivable but as you can expect even though I had pictures and proof on paper BMW SA didn't find any wrong doing from its dealer of the year I would not trust Pinnacle bmw to work on my lawnmower

BMW SA do not reply to emails sent to them and do not worry about selling spares on older cars. I am sure most bmw owners will rather pay a few rand more for a genuine spare part , but no , these dealers say "you should have bought a merc so bend over..." , why screw us ? :fencelook:
Maybe we need someone on the forum to take orders and we pay him and with his 5 percent profit he will smile over a year , oh yes he will get a 15 percent discount for his volume buying from the dealer but we won't talk about that .

@ Raybimmer - Someone told me parts for any model car should be available for at least 10 years from date of manufacture. However, you still get spares for old classics like Pontiac. If there are still millions of that particular model on the road, there should be spares available from scrap yards. If you are looking into my case, the scrapyard wants to sell me the entire bumper for that tow hook cover, so options are limited.

@Adi - That is good to know thanks. With 20% discount, R263 is still crazy.

eBay - $17 ~ R136 ex shipping and import duties.

I will just buy the bloody thing and epoxy it to the bumper :fencelook:

On the BMW car club Gauteng they say this:

Discounts on select BMW Parts & Accessories at participating BMW Dealerships

Do you possibly have a list of the parts/dealers where this applies?

Well not completely, as there are some parts/accessories I want that are dealer only (actually true in this case) and if I could get any type of discount it would be awesome.

Is this the same Pinnacle Auto in Secunda ? Because I'll never take my car to them "EVER" again. Also had a similar experience where they never replaced my LCAB's but charged me for it and when I took it back to them, those very same cuntz had a nerve to quote me for other things that didnt even need replacing.

Well while in the process of restoring the E Type I can comfortably say that BMW prices are fucking crazy. I was expecting the E Type to rip a new one, but its actually not too bad by comparison.

I have my club card and all dealers so far have given me discount between 5% and 20% depending on the parts, dealers I have used: Leo Hase centurion, Auto Bavaria Midrand, Cedar Auto Fourways, and the dealership on Corletdrive, as well as two in CT.

oh and parts bought are tools, rubbers seals, filters, disks, carpet screws, carpets, CD shuttle (e36) got a good discount there, badges,

I need to look into this club card thing.

Strange how pricing works, on my e24 the service kit was R20 more at the stealers than Midas. But a thermostat at stealers R545 and got one at gold wagen for R89.

I really don't know why there is no standard at BMW, all Merc parts prices are set buy Head Office, so all dealers charge the same the only diff could be labor.

My other car is a merc and their parts prices are all decently logical and rational, you can see they have thought it out properly. What I really do like is high failure items are priced virtually at cost as well as stuff for old cars never costs more than the car. And to go on a bit I almost never had to wait for parts from Germany and if I do it's 48 hours flat, every time.

Pity the damn car doesnt go like my BM but still a pleasure to own and service....

Just give it time bud! The heater control valve on the C250TD is a " VERY common failure item" and the thieving f*cking pigs charge R6600 for the thing!!!

It is a plastic valve with two solenoids and if it costs R200 to make its a lot.

the ignition switch is also a common failure item and they charge R12000 for it!!!!!

They have also stopped letting other repair agents get blank keys from them to re-program a new ignition switch so essentially making it impossible for anyone other than merc able to do the repair.

If that is not under handed and dirty I dont know what is!

Merc is just as bad as all the other brands and I promise you, its only a matter of time until you get burned by them.

Have to agree with Rick on this one, my dad got a w123 merc and for a car thats 28 years old, parts are reasonably priced. Its only the newer mercs where prices for parts are sky-high like BMW....

I was on my way back from holiday in the 540 when the weather strip around the windscreen decided to rip loose while doing about 140km. Tried putting it back, but the plastic clips broke. Ended up pulling the strip off completely so I can continue home, but was kinda shocked how easy it came off. It took no effort on my part to pull the strip off the remaining clips. Figured I just need some new clips as the strip itself was fine.

Part nr: 51318177850
No. 1 in the image
10.png

There is nothing special about this clip. It's one molded part as far as I can see. Got to BMW and was quoted R80.40 per clip and there was originally 16 clips. That's R1286.40 just to have a weather strip fitted!!

Cleaned the old clips with a toothbrush, put some silicone on each clip and put the strip back. It's now WWWAAAYYY more secure than with just the clips.
