Dewald that thread is perfect, I've bookmarked it so that I can print snippets from it and take a checklist with me.
Maljan that's a good thought... It would be awesome if I could find an outoppie with a 328i instead if a 323i!!!
Does the 323i have a 2.5 engine like the 325i?

AFAIK the E36 323i uses the newer M52 engine while the 325i uses the M50. Both are 2.5l motors, but later M52s were upgraded to have dual-vanos. The 323i is less powerful when compared to the 325i though (125kw vs 141kw).
Maljan said:Some of the missing kW in the 325i can probably be made to reappear by chipping. Camshaft profiles etc. might work against that, I don't know. Perhaps somebody can fill us in on that. Torque is exactly the same FWIW.
The 323i was actual!y detuned for marketing reasons to create space for the 328i. Tooling up for a 2.3 would have been too expensive I suppose. Even the 328i was held back to 142kW to keep it underneath some German tax threshold.
