Hi Gents

I thought I would start this thread since a lot more guys are now servicing their cars out of MP on their own. These BMW special tools needed for the N55’s and N54’s are not cheap especially if you need to order these tools from another country.

I hope that members sharing their finds will help others save some cash. Were possible please post pictures.

Mods can discuss making this thread a sticky if they wish, i know i saved thousand thus far on labor.

Here are some of my finds thanks to friends on our group chat:

Tool: King Tony 14mm thin wall socket
Use: Spark plug change
Purchased from: Centparts
Price: R68

Tip: This spark plug is not magnetic. However, I used an old-school trick of sticking a small round magnet from a name badge onto the end of a 15cm extension using Pratley steel. It holds the plugs when removing and adding the new plugs without touching the spark plugs, works like a breeze.

Tool: Oil filter housing cap tool
Use: Oil filter change
Purchased from: Centparts
Price: R90.97

Yes it says Volvo but it works

Thank you!! I'm going to get that oil cap socket tomorrow :ty:
Some Midas stores have them in stock - if not, ask them to place an order with Micro-Tek with the partnumber on the top right hand side of the picture. That's what I did from Menlyn Midas - 2 days delivery. Worked like a charm. Btw - they still had one in stock last week.

Nice thread

I found the oil filter cap and the socket at autozone.

Dont really need the magnet as the socket has a spring catch on the inside that grips the spark plug to remove it

Karsh330d do you have a pic of that spark plug tool? I bought the one from builders and the tool itself was getting stuck inside lol so never really bothered changing the plugs

Any updates on needed tools? I realized yesterday I am short on quality tools and variety. Bought 1/2" and 3/8" ratchet and socket sets today. Next will be long sockets which include one as indicated above as well as a comprehensive Torx set.
