BMW messed in water

HI there

can anyone advise, my was driven into water and died, tried starting but to no avail I've got a 2007 320D (E90)

Computer box seems to fine as I replaced the battery and its does all it checks, just displays that the window switches are now faulty as well as the airbag system.

I've drained out all of the oil, changed the oil filter and tried turning the crank, all goes well.

But when trying to start the car just swings, like there is no spark.

I was initially told that if the engine had been damaged than the car won't even swing.

Please help
Any advise would be apprciatied

Ai all I can say is that its a very long story,

Thinking back it actually seems like a clip from some movie

What happened was that this happened in that freak rainstorm that hit Joburg in March
drove below a bridge and saw quite a large puddle of water and even though I tried stopping a car rushed past gave the car a dirty wash
and then the car just stalled.

Tried starting but nothing called for a tow truck but when they finally arrived, the car was floating in water (Like an hour later)

half the bonnet was in the water with the boot in the air.
Some water in the cabin too but nowhere near the dashboard as all that still seems to be working fine

No not as yet as everyone just wants the car be taken to them

And then they want to start stripping

Anyone that has a portable diagnostic tool?

Yep

A whole lot of issues there too hey

Seems like that day was just not may day :argh::argh:

And besides I'm having issues with them about issues other than the actual incident.....(In other words they don't want to pay)

But the matter is currently under investigation at the Ombudsman

Nope

sorry forgot to mention that I bought it at 100100kms on it,

Took out all the other extended what nots but they all pull up their noses
as they say that they only cover mechanical failure
and not failure caused by something else

How convenient is that.... buying an e90 100km out of MP :bangdesk:

As for those mechanical insurance companies... they always anal when it comes to claiming :argh:

Something similar happened to my cousins E90 as well, Insurance paid for a new motor.

Believe the E90's air intake is inline with the top of the bumper, thats where the water usually gets in.

Assuming insurance should cover you as well.

Before assuming the motor is wrecked do a compression test.

If it has compression on all cylinders then there is nothing wrong with the mechanicals and you can go after electrics.

In your situ I would take it slow and do tests one by one, don't listen to domsday sayers untill you are sure, so do that compression test first thing.

 I dont have good news I spoke to my wifes cousin he is a BMW workshop forman a while back about that same thing happened to a mate - he told me that the slightest amount of water into the Diesel engines and they have huge amount of damage, they had to rebuild the engine +++.
I hope the diagnosis is not bad for you.
