Hi all,

Anyone recently updated their maps? I am curious to know what the latest version is before I pay the R700 for 1 years worth of updates.

I am in the same boat.

I paid R900 to get the Connected Drive Booster Package, which sadly does not include updated maps.

Both BMW and Volvo use HERE maps. Volvo offers lifetime free downloads/updates. R700 for a BMW map update is steep.

Can the maps be updated over the air or do
you need to download to USB on your PC and then manually upload to the car?
Wouldn't mind paying R700, if you click a button and the car updates the maps by itself. How many GB is the update?

Hi, I purchased 2023 NBT NEXT Map update from Bimmerguru on Ebay.com for $20. You need to download his link and he gives you an FSC code. Took abt 10 minutes to Install. If you purchase more than One you get a discount. FYI

If going the legal route, here is the full procedure to get BMW Maps:

REQUIREMENTS:
- For BMW Download Manager, your computer requires Microsoft Windows operating system version 7 or Mac OS X El Capitan version 10.11 or higher.
- Your computer needs up to 60 GB of free memory capacity to download and decompress the map material.
-Please also note that the format required for USB memory stick with a capacity of more than 32 GB (we recommend 64GB) for Windows: NTFS or ExFat format, and for MAC: FAT32 (32GB is sufficient).
- The USB flash drive must not contain any other files or folders.

USEFUL NOTES:
- Always download the latest version of the Download Manager to your computer.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Log in to the ConnectedDrive portal at https://www.bmw.co.za/en/index.html and, click on the Profile section (little doll top right) ? "My vehicles" ? "Map Update" ? Your BMW? "Map Update".
Click "Map Update" followed by "Manual Map Update".
Click "Go to Manual Map Update" and select your computer's Operating System (Windows or MacOS) to download the "BMW Download Manager" software.
Log in to the "BMW Download Manager" with your BMW ID (email) and ConnectedDrive password.
Confirm the vehicle for which a manual map update is to be performed. The BMW Download Manager displays the new version of the navigation map available for your vehicle.
Select the region (Southern Africa), and confirm the download with "OK".Select a folder on your PC (not on the USB stick) to store the temporary download files.
To do this, create a folder on your PC and name it "BMW FSC" which will temporarily store the map download.
Start the download with "Continue download" [Make a note of the activation code if it appears (only in some cases with ID4 ++)].
After successfully downloading the map material to your computer, the Download Manager will prompt you to select the USB stick on which you want to extract the map material.
Select the USB stick to be used and click on "Save File".
The map material is decompressed or extracted from your computer to the USB stick by the BMW Download Manager (DLM) once you click on "save data".
The decompression process will start, with a percentage.
After successfully transferring the data, confirm by clicking on "OK''.
Go to your BMW and insert the USB into the central port and you will get a notification that "There is a newer version of the maps, do you want to install it" you should click "Yes".
Transferring the data from the USB to the vehicle usually takes 15 to 20 minutes.

After a successful download, you can check that the new version is up to date under "Version information":

Just to update this thread.

The BMW Maps and navigation routing technology are crap. I will not be upgrading in future. Google Maps is leaps ahead.
Google maps are better agreed, but my BMW Nav maps work just fine. I find the location on my BMW phone app, send it to the car and off I go. For part that it lacks, it makes up for me not having to use my phone. That's always been a gripe for me.

I find it struggles with roads that are in remote/quiet areas. For urban areas and popular routes, it works fine.

I've been using BMW maps for over 10 years. They're shit. End of story. Even with the latest map updates, it always tries to take you on some random road, taking unnecessary detours, turns, loops and what not. Waze and Google maps ftw (and if you're worried about reception, get Sygic offline GPS).

Pity that, because BMW Maps pulls from HERE Maps, which belonged to Nokia at one stage, might still be licensed to them. It was one of the only mapping services that would allow full country map downloads on Nokia devices, and was pretty accurate then. This was quite a bit before Google Maps, mind you. Shame.

I recently took delivery of a 2015 F25 X3 with Navigation, but it sits with 2015 Maps, which is a bit out of date. I tried the route described above but the website doesn't recognize my VIN as suitable for "Connected Drive". I spoke to the car saleseman to find out if BMW themselves can update it for me and his response came back to say these old vehicles no longer receive map updates.

Thus, I am left with a DIY upgrade if I want more current maps.

Does a site like this look legit? https://navi-expert.com/road-map-southern-africa-next

I would only purchase this if an FSC code is provided.

I updated mine yesterday to the 2023 maps.

check BimmerGuru on Ebay, he has once of packs including FSC code.
youl receive a link to download the files and an FSC code linked to your cars VIN.
