O so Sxc said:dont know about 540 but tried a Motorsport chip on an E34 525i with an M20 motor .The car picked up an extra 1000rpms and revved up much faster .Also faster 0-100 and much stronger in the midrange power too.
You can try guys like JSN Motors who are also agents for AC Schnitzer or Chiplogic or an aftermarket system like Mr Tubo or Dicktator
Good luck

Does it always make that 8wk more or is it only when it is on the dyno?

Raybimmer said:@Andy the auto has a 404 ecu and the 6-speed has a 484 ecu . Clutchy downloaded my ecu parameters and they were way different to his 404 ecu in his 540i manual conversion .
There seems to be a problem with the security system , you have to use your cars chip again , but if someone can download it and copy to a eprom chip ( they are relatively cheap 3327 or so chips ) you could send it to the states . Cost about 250 dollars with speed limiter removed ( std 240 km/h limiter ) , rev limit raised and parameters improved . There were good reviews , low rev pulling was improved . Local ? Maybe unichip ?

Legacy said:It might be true that the ECU's are different however I doubt there is any significant difference between the parameters. Our 540i with the 5 speed conversion from an auto has pretty much identical performance to any 540iM. I would even go as far to say it is stronger. We have tested this as well as tested against an E34 M5 and there is not allot in it. The M5 will pull away at some stage since it can reach 260kph but from 20-220kph the cars are dead even. Oh and this M5 in particular I have seen pull away from a couple of other M5's as well as a 540iM with ease.

What have you done to yours aside from the manual swap?

However the plot thickens. M62 sub being used in my E34 now with non vanos heads. Possibly M60 heads. I wonder if this hybrid would see similar gains with a ECU update.
The devil's in the details so once she's finished and running and I have all the specs I'm definitely going to sort something out

Diff swap and different exhaust, and the exhaust could probably be better as it is pretty badly made.
