And if I recall, the car has no dipstick?

Yes, no dipstick and oil level sensors fail. These motors tend to use oil and before you know it, there could be too little oil on the motor...:yuck:

The problem is, if you look at the last rod bearing on the crank, under a microscope, it looks something like this.

Dude, there is only one word for the V10... MANIC!! What you get for the price is a bargain of note BUT I would never recommend owing one out of Motorplan.

My bro and I both have E63 M6's and in the passed 8 months the following has been changed on our cars under motorplan:

- both our engines
- my gearbox
- some of his gearbox internals
- his alternator

Total cost - in excess of R1 million...

So in my opinion, definitely one of the best ///Ms ever made but risky to own out of plan.

Can you tell at which branch this was done? My contact at BMW SA don't seem to be aware of this??

1 engine at JSN and 1 engine at Club Motors, gearbox at Cedar Isle.

Tell your contact to check his records again.

For what reasons were the engines replaced?

Constant transmission/smg failures. Both our cars were out of action for 3 months

We drive our cars hard all the time, maybe the guys that dont have issues are a bit more gentle but v10s are notorious for these issues

You still have not explained for what reasons the engines were replaced.

He did, "drive hard" :=):

Explains it all

1 poped and the other had some internal issue (valve of some sort) that could not be repaired, so after 7 weeks of diagnosis it was replaced

I heard that over revs caused the problems (is it true?), its when in the heat of the moment the driver gets confused with the paddle shifts, and shifts to a lower gear when on the rev limit. It is a weak spot in the design, but still a driver error, BMW should have taken care of this through the management system that would ignore a shift request if it will compromise the motor.

I highly doubt the smg software would allow the car to over rev

It cannot control kinetic energy forcing the motor to over rev.

SMG will not let you downshift if it means you are going to go past redline.

Both my SMG cars did this. E46 M3 and the M5

Even DCT in my E92 M3 doesn't allow you to downshift if it is going to go past redline.

It's in the owners manual. Go read up on it

Lets say it is a glitch in the SMG software. It has happened to me :flyfun:
I downshifted 3 to 2 and the box engaged long enough. I almost lost the rear when the clutch disengaged with a loud bang. I thought thats the end of something but it seems everything is still in working order. I'm getting a SMG soft update maybe next week for this issue.

Mate there must be something wrong with your box then. SMG since day one has not allowed downshifts that will cause over rev.

I think you are probably correct, but if this happened to me, how many more cases like this exists?

I have never heard of it happening to anyone else to be honest. Even on M5 forums, no one has mentioned it

Maybe I'm assuming it downshifted, I don't know, the point is, I hit the downshift paddle when I should not have, after that something just very weird happened which had the potential to destroy or harm the car. Everything happened very fast and I was more concerned with staying on the tarmac at that moment. I was in P500 sport mode with DSC off.

Agreed. U can clip the down shift paddle all day, box will only downshift at abt 5500rpm which will translate to 7900rpm when the lower gear is engaged.

Like you said though anything is possible.

Strange thing is that both new motors feel alot more potentent than the original 07 motors. Is there any formal information in reference to upgrades done to the later model engines?
