You at the point where bearings really should be done . So get it done. Do not drive the car at all till the issue is diagnosed

Oh gosh, what is that cold chill running down my spine.

OH CRAP!! Really sorry to hear bud! I'd say check with Tune Tech.

This happens to the V8s and V10s as well. Good Luck!

Missed the news that the crank is gone....

They have some V8 engines there...do not know if there is one crank left which is ok...

have you talked to them already?

Call Tunetech, they have a crank...just talked to them!

Tune tech buys from BMW. And they have lotsa cranks. In stock. In Midrand. And they are supplied with a set of bearings as well. Add to that the sump gasket and the rod /main bolts as well. Then you might have ended up with shavings in your oil system, so that might need to be flushed or replaced as well.

But please believe me that you cannot just take this to any Mech to get sorted. Guys like Peter and Tunetech have done this before, and I can tell you first hand that it's an involved process. Stick with the guys that have done this before.

sludge leading to sticky oil pump, before any major work you decide to do, do 3-4 engine flushes (recommend 2lts diesel thrown in, but some are afraid to do it) if hesitant can use normal engine flush. Thereafter than top up as normal and see if its better.

ok just read, it already killed itself. easier to swop in a low mileage engine.

Lol do you have any of idea the price of a low mileage engine and the effort required to just swop on these cars?:smashScreen:

I think rebuilding it (if the block can be saved) will still be a better option. and if you buy your parts from BMW, you'll have warranties on them if anything goes wrong. But each to their own...

About R40k thats crank, bearings and labour + sundry items all from bmw. Vs R85k just for an engine which can spin another bearing in 6 months because you have no idea how it was driven, appart from that loss on resale value due to an engine change not to mention police clearance ect due to engine number change.
