So I'm on the brink of starting the bike for the first time but my fuel injectors are not playing game. They refuse to flow at all. Have tried cleaning them myself with no luck. Will have to find a place to have them cleaned ultrasonically. I hope they're salvageable!

This is so cool! I love motorbikes , I don't wanna ride them ( To afraid) , just look at them or hang them on my wall , They look soo Cool! Like works of art .

Were these Ex police bikes ? What are those stars on the petrol tanks?

Agreed, I'm also too afraid to ride here in South Africa. This one is just to sell at the end of the day, but every time I work on it I really don't want to sell it.

Yes, both of my donor bikes were ex-police bikes. That's what the stars illustrate on the tank. The instrument clusters have the "whail" and associated sirens installed, rather cool.

I'm going this morning to Bosch in centurion to see if these fuel injectors are recoverable, otherwise, I heard that the '83 BMW 318i fuel injector is an alternative replacement, so I'll stop by Goldwagen and see if they can give me a price that won't make my eyes bleed.

I'm so excited to hear this bike start!

Once I've got the engine running well, I can start cutting and modifying the frame for that classic Cafe Racer look.

I can recommend Bosch Centurion.

They serviced and flow tested a set of antique Nissan injectors I used on my previous project car. Price was reasonable as well, R1200 for flow test, clean, new caps, new seals, new filters.

Ended up getting some second hand injectors from Designa Ridez in PTA from a BMW e30 318i.

So guess who started their motorbike today...

So the original injectors are Bosch 0280 150 210, as pictured below:
These have a flow rate of 165cc

The alternative injectors are from an '83 E30 318i , Bosch 0280 150 211 and are considered a slight upgrade because of their flow rate of 170cc, as pictured below:

The fuel injectors I was able to source from Designa Ridez seem to be from an E30 320i or E36 320i, Bosch 0280 150 415 and have a flow rate of 176cc, pictured below:

It'll be interesting to see whether the bike can handle the extra 11cc or approximately 6.5%...

Where to start.. So much to update :hammerhead:

So the bike is running

I've conected a fuel pump and the new injectors. The bike starts with ease but is running a bit rough, I assume due to the extra fuel from the non standard fuel injectors. She doesn't idle yet, but I haven't synchronised the Throttle bodies and I'm hoping that'll make the difference. Doing a lot of work on the frame now and figuring out how to mount and create the cafe racer look.

looks good so far.
agree with riding in SA,used to ride long time go until a drunk driver turned right in front of me,ended up with two broken wrists, bones in my left hand damaged badly(if I break them again loose use of hand)knee cap was out on left leg and had to be put back into place.

have rode again, but only off road bikes and quads.

spoke to a guy on Friday and he got himself a ktm 1190 adventure, only rides dirt roads and back roads, more relaxing and scenic ,if he has to ride on rode, short distances, agree with him fully on the dirt roads, did roughly 600km in the defender 110 while on holiday and scenery was awesome and no other traffic.

cant wait to see this project finished, maybe even see it in the flesh

I was on the brink of riding the bike yesterday evening, but unfortunately the front brake master cylinder is leaking so I'll need to get that sorted ASAP.

Many updates to come.

So the front brake master cylinder is with CBF Strydom Park to see whether it is salvageable or not.

Anyway, I rode the bike with the rear brakes (Drum) hooked up. That was really fun and boy does this thing have power, just a few squirts in first and second and this thing really shunts its way along for a 20+-year-old bike.

Bought a new rear tyre, Pirelli Speed Demon 120/90/18, my goodness the price of bike tyres are ridiculous. Also bought some new Brake Pads for the front callipers.

Anybody know where I can find that automotive type tape that has a felt like backing? The stuff they use inside cars etc? I need to wrap the wiring harness.

Time to get working on the frame again, trying to find a TIG welder in the centurion area...

This is so true.
3 years ago I could buy a SET of new Michelins for R2k, last year just the rear tyre cost me R2k. The prices have rocketed.....

Good to hear it is running, congrats!

And to add to the shopping list. New bearings needed for the front wheel and new hydraulic seals for the dampers.
