I also enjoyed it. It turned out well, after very short notice and little advertising. It was only flyers, forum, facebook and Goodhope FM. It was on the radio since last week Wed.
Reasoning of short notice (as I mentioned earlier in this thread and the other thread) was cos there wasnt a set date yet, until all of a sudden there was. Advertising couldnt happen until a date was set. They were told, at the beginning of Feb, that the set date is 21 March.
So they only had 6 weeks to get their ideas of the events for the day into place, get flyers made, etc and inform everyone out there about the event.
And it was also the long weekend, alot of people went away.
Yeah, I heard that the guys at the gate were clueless about where the park off was. It was on the go kart track. The show and shine was on the gravel behind the new pits.
I was there from 7:45 to setup SMG's gazebo, etc. I parked my 130i on the go kart track to show where everyone should start parking their cars. Then I moved it at about 9 for the track sessions.
I only did 1 session, ....(I always do the monthly track days, so I wasnt missing out)... cos I decided to rather watch all the beemers go on the track and chat to people in the pit lane about their cars etc, and supervise SMG's stand.
The parade lap was awesome. Gary lead the pack in my 130i with Ken in his M3. I was in the 2nd row in the M3, that was parked under SMG's gazebo in the new pits.
The M3 convertible, from SMG (which came late, to be on display), was in row 5.
When we drove out of turn 1, we saw the last car entering turn 3. Half the parade was in 2 lanes and the rest in single file..... Did anyone count how many cars there were in the parade.
I was passenger in Ken's car when he did the Donuts/Drift session. He was incredible.
I stayed till just after 4:30, to watch the afternoon session (open track day). A few beemers did the afternoon session.
It was great meeting some of you. I think we need to do a breakfast run again soon or a meet up, so that we can meet more of us and get to know each other.
