A few weeks ago, fellow fanatic Mo and I were chatting about his latest acquisition — a BMW F87 M2 LCI — and I offered to give it a thorough pre-trip inspection before he hit the road to KZN. With just two days before he left, we agreed to meet on the public holiday to get the car checked out properly.
He pulled in with this absolutely stunning example, and after taking a moment to appreciate the clean lines, subtle mods, and that unmistakable M presence — it was time to get to work.
🔍 Underbody & Mechanical Inspection
We got the M2 onto the lift, removed the undertray, grabbed our flashlights and started the inspection.
What I found was nothing short of impressive:
✅ No oil leaks – bone dry from the engine, gearbox, diff
✅ No residue or signs of past leaks
✅ Suspension components in excellent condition
✅ No play or movement in the usual suspects
✅ Exhaust hangers and bushings all solid
The only issue worth noting:
🔧 The downpipe bracket was broken. Small part, easy fix, and nothing serious. I sent Mo the OEM part number, and told him to bring it back whenever he has time — we’ll sort it.
🛠️ Visuals & Personal Touches
Mo has already added some tasteful upgrades which give the car even more presence:
💻 Diagnostics & Final Checks
With the mechanical inspection wrapped, we:
Massive thanks to Mo for trusting us with your baby. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with this machine.
