something wrong with the 320i f30. an RXI can only kill a 320i e90 not the f30 unless if mr corolla is not stock. stock on stock the corolla doesn't have a chance.

Back in the day the 20v could run 15.1; 15.2 at the coast over 400m. I'm sure that is enough to at least run close to the 320i. I personally do not believe that the 320i will annihilate the 20v.

@OP (guy who started the thread)

For the sake of clearing up the hearsay could you post the following:

- where did this run take place? At the coast or up country?

- what is your current tyre condition, are you on RFTs. And what size?

- how well do you know the rxi? How sure are you that it's stock?

- what was the road condition where you had the run on? Did you notice the traction control kicking in at all?

You have a 2014 model. Im quiet sure it has launch control. Use it. It helps on a 400m run.

Let the gearbox change on its own. You will not shift any faster.

20v will go from the line but you will reel and pass

I tend to disagree here - the car revs all the way to the red and out of the peak boost delivery power band. In terms of shifting faster, the gear change speed is constant, all you're doing is telling the car when to change gears, unless I'm missing something?

Just my 2c... I had a go with a honda vtec at the drags at soccer city about 3 weeks back. The honda was worked. Gas flowed head, braches, full exhaust system and other unknown mods. I drive a 320i F30, sunroof and 19's. So based on what i have read , my car was heavier. Vtec stuck with me first 200m or so, thereafter i pulled away, was about 2 car lenghts ahead at the end of the 1\4 .

Based on my experience the rxi and vtec were very close. So this rxi had to have been worked, no way it was stock.

The 320i doest not come with launch control. Best option is sport + for racing

Few points:-

1. The power to weight ratio as pointed out earlier, the Rxi has 0.1kw of power for every kg of weight whereas the BMW only 0.089kw per kg of weight
2. Relatively the BMW has 38% more weight but only 17% more
power to counter the effects of the extra weight
3. Manual vs Auto........normally torque converter autos drain abit of power,
I'm not sure about this in reference to 320i, maybe someone can confirm
4. Did the driver of the Rxi only refer to stock engine or the entire vehicle being
stock? If he refered to only engine, what about if he had a racing clutch or a lightweight flywheel fitted, surely these non-engine mods will help in launching the Rxi of the line?

Also I'm not sure if the Rxi has a rev limiter or not, but if not, being a manual allows you to fully rev the engine vs only being able to rev the engine according to BMWs preset electronics, which protect the engine and dont allow you to fully rev the engine. Tyres as well will play a factor, maybe the ones on the RXi were more grippier.

I dont think I will agree with statements that a 320i should give a Rxi a hiding, based on above. I think the Rxi driver is very used to launching his Rxi and shifting through gears vs your auto.

Guys, it takes great skill to work a manual gearbox if done correctly gives great launches and less drivetrain power loss vs an auto............excluding the dct boxes.

Power to weight ratio based on Kish specs supplied

Rxi about 0.1
320 about 0.089

Hi Gents . To answer all the questions as best as possible . Plz note the following

1. The run was done at the coast
2. The 320i has only 9k on the clock
3. Just got the car and didnt realize that without holding the DSC button the DSR was still active
4. I left it on Sport + and drove it on automatic
5. I did a dyno on the Vehicle and its doing 124 kw on the wheels
6. Mr corolla wanted to run it on a rolling start so his vvti is active but none the less , take off put me front but he reeled me

124kw at the wheels seems high for a 320I, that's like almost 150kw at the fly.

i used to have a little 1600 vtec with a few mods..at the coast you'll be surprised. i totally believe that a healthy rxi would give it a good run.

IMO either the dyno is over reading or the F30 320i's are actually pushing more than 135kw or these ones in particular may not be stock :tiptoe:

It's the latter

I went for a re-run on my F30 320d after the injectors and egr thermostat were sorted. 142wkw, 406nm, bone stock

Most Turbo BMWs push their fly KW at the wheels. :coolShake:

So no drivetrain loss from flywheel to wheels?

Or BMW just understates on their spec sheets? :tiptoe:

What what I've seen, it could be true. Especially the new M cars...
