I recently received a call to book in a BMW F30 320d for a major service, along with front and rear brake discs, pads, and wear sensors. Once all the parts had arrived, the vehicle was dropped off and we got straight to work.

🧰 Major Service – Diesel Workhorse TLC
We began with the engine service:

πŸ”Έ Added Motul Engine Flush while the car idled β€” something we do on all high-mileage diesels to help break down sludge
πŸ”Έ Raised the car, removed the undertray, and drained the dirty oil β€” full drain allowed
πŸ”Έ Inspected the undercarriage, suspension, and drivetrain β€” all checked out with no issues
πŸ”Έ Replaced the crush washer and reinstalled the sump plug
πŸ”Έ Swapped out the old fuel filter for a new Bosch unit along with its plastic protective cover
πŸ”Έ Removed and replaced the engine oil filter, cleaning the housing and cap thoroughly
πŸ”Έ Replaced the engine air filter
πŸ”Έ Topped up with Motul 8100 X-Clean 5W40
πŸ”Έ Installed a MANN activated charcoal cabin air filter
πŸ”Έ Gave the undertray a solid clean before refitting

πŸ›ž Front & Rear Brake Overhaul
For the brake system refresh, we chose Hella Pagid discs and pads β€” reliable, well-priced, and known for great performance.
Front Brakes:

  • Stripped everything down to the hubs
  • Degreased all hardware, brackets, and calipers.etc
  • The hubs had significant rust build-up β€” this was cleaned using a wire wheel to ensure smooth mounting
  • Applied anti-seize to hub faces and disc/mag rim contact surface
  • Coated new pads with brake anti-squeal spray
  • Reassembled meticulously with new wear sensor
Rear Brakes:
  • Followed the same process β€” full clean, prep, and install of new discs, pads, and wear sensor

πŸ’» Finishing Touches & Quality Control
  • Ran diagnostics to read and clear old fault codes
  • Reset CBS items: Engine Oil, Front Brakes, Rear Brakes
  • Gave the engine bay a thorough wipe down and dressed plastic trims β€” we always aim for a complete finish
  • Popped in one of our MMS-branded air fresheners
  • Took the car for a test drive to confirm brake performance and ensure proper bedding

Before handing it back, we reminded the driver to take it easy on the new brakes for the first 1,000 km to allow proper bedding and optimal longevity.
Another hardworking 320d back on the road, running clean and braking strong
πŸ’ͺ
Always a pleasure to help keep these diesels in top shape.
