BMW E90 325i overheating

Hi Guys,

Been on the forum for some time now, need to ask some of the professionals for advise now.

I have a 2006 BMW E90 325i and on this weekend was stopped at a robot and had the overheating warning light come one. luckily i was about 50 m from a petrol station, pulled over and switched the car off. True to the warning light, the car was over heating! lol

Now my question is, if anyone has had the same problem and what the solution is. Have spoken to a few people and have narrowed it down to the following:

1. Head gasket - The oil is still clean and the car starts and purrs like a kitten
2. Water pump - The water does not circulate through the water bowl but pushes out the top (when the lid is off)
3. Thermostat - Not sure what this does as i am not sure how to check this.

Please offer your thoughts, its at the mechanic now, but the more info i gather regarding this the better chance i have of not being ripped off.

Thanks in advance

Clayton

I had to replace my waterpump on my 323i

Waterpump for sure I would say... Good chance the thermostat is still ok though..

Waterpump aint the cheapest thing going around and you looking at around 5k for it... There's guys on the forum that can assist with fitment also. :) but it's not that difficult to do a diy. :=):

Get the error codes read and you should see the failure on the electric waterpump.

Also what mileage is on the car... mine went at around 126k km

Hi fellow fanatics. Reffering to clayton s overheating problem
I say its obviously the electric water pump, they can fail anytime ,so look at it first
Before you start stressing about the head gasket, there s absolutely nothing wrong with ur head gasket, and when u replace that water pump ,u must also change your thermostart.if u around cape town,I can assist you with the fitting.xiao
