BMW e90 320i reliability

Hi guys,

I have a 2007 BMW 320i manual with 175000km, FSH at BMW.

With the vehicle approaching 10 years of age & the 200000km mileage mark & I am a bit concerned about reliability & associated repair/maintenance cost.

Although very tempting F30 range I have delayed the replacement of my vehicle by making a sound financial decision to pump cash into my home loan.

The vehicle is in good condition & well maintained with the only major issue being replacement of the valvetronic motor a few months after mplan expired.

Please help me with your advise/answers to the below questions.

1. Are there any recommendations on preventative maintenance that can be done to increase the lifespan of my vehicle? My Dad recommended more frequent oil changes(mid way of the standard interval i.e. 7500km-10000km) Your thoughts?

2. What is the track record of E90 320's on lifespan, do I have anything to worry about approaching 10years & 200000km or are they reliable?

3. I have noticed an upward trend in oil consumption over the last 75000km, I am 1000km to the next oil service & I have topped up approx. 5L of motor oil since the previous oil service. Is this normal?

Thank you in advance.

Your Dad is right.

More frequent oil changes- to prevent sludge.

At some point you will have to do valve stem seals, could be the reason for the oil usage.

Look, if you look after her she will look after you.

Mine is on 139k now, the only thing iv had to do is a valve cover gasket. ( today actually)

I change oil every 10 000ks.

I traded mine with 217000 Kms. I only did normal maintenance and changed anything that needed to be done.

The car is usually bulletproof. Treat her right and she'll treat you right.

I don't have a 320i, but 5L of oil between services is excessive. I think you will start renewing the car from this point onwards, but it should arguably be cheaper than a new F30, assuming you buy brand new at R5500pm without insurance.

5L on 25000km is very little actually.

OP - I hope yours is the exception, but lately, I cannot drive behind an e90 320i that doesn't smoke excessively. Its as if they all decided simultaneously to pack up

The ride is very hard, but if you get used to that its a very nice vehicle!
