Hi Guys

Seems this is my problem on my car.

Took it for a front suspension check up and replace some parts because my car feels loose on the the road.

Do any of you guys know if one can buy the rubber part loose or do you need to replace the whole part.

 on the E30 it is only a rubber disc with four metal sleeved holes, similar to a guibo but only a bit thinner?

I think I need this as well , What symptoms are you experiencing ? Is it like looseness of the steering wheel?

On my E30 I replaced that things rubber but , BMW told me I have to replace the whole part and cant just replace the rubber . Not even sure it has a rubber .

What does this part cost?

Yes car is all over the road with a loose shaky steering wheel feeling.

I replaced lower control and put new bushes at the front still dame feeling. Reading about the symptoms on the web one guy over at e46 fanatics says this coupling restore his steering feel as if his driving a new car again.

Bmw stealers ask R1600.

The US steering is different to ours. they have the flex disk. So that's what you're probably reading about on e46 Fanatics. It's probably tie rods or your steering rack.

@Moranor is this the problem on our cars then? Mine does not shake or wander on the road yet, it still feels very solid, however my mechie pointed out to me that the R/F shock is on its way out which ties in with the car's tendency to activate the R/F ABS system 90% more often than the left. Could you please pm me with quotes for shocks and the steering coupling?

Also this item as well if you have it:

E30 steering coupling for Manual steering rack, the Power steering coupling is shorter so it won't reach.

Have you had the car at a Supa Quick or TWT so that they could identify the problem for you? I once thought that there was something seriously wrong with my Boxie a vibration started in the floor, "moved" all the way through the roof and slowly cycled down to the floor again at a steady 130km/h, it turned out that the left rear wheel rim was oval on the iNSIDE, making it hard to spot during a quick walkabout around the car.

I suggest you have the steering inspected on the lift. And slowly move the steering side to side to see where the play is coming from. The part Moranor posted is original on my car at 420kms. My bet is your problem is tierod ends or steering rack.

+1, tie rod ends, rack ends or steering rack, however the car must have done a lifetime of gravel roads for the steering rack itself to get into such a condition. My gut feeling is the tie rod ends and the steering coupling.

The rubber disc for the E30 cost me about R80.00 two years ago from Hakuna Mathatha spares here in Hazy. I would say that now it would cost about R150-R200. And yes, it is a rubber disc with four metal sleeved holes, the round metal thing you see is the heat shield for the disc, the coupling bolts together with 4 13mm bolts and nuts, or at least the one on my car does :) but then again if it did not on all of them, how would you replace the rubber disc

E30, there is not rubber flex disk on the e46s steering
