Hi guys, need some help diagnosing a problem on a 2004 bmw e46 318i n46b20A.

Problem: When the car is at normal operating temperature, upon slight acceleration ( between 800rpm & 1300rpm) there is a kluk kluk/knocking noise coming from the bottom of the motor.

The car has been to 2 mechanics already and they have between the 2 of them probably changed every part there is to change with no success.

Big ticket Parts that were already changed:
-lifters
-camshaft position sensor
-coil packs
-oil pump with balancing shafts
-vanos units
-vanos solenoids
-valve stem seals
-timing chain/belt
-sump was dropped to check bearings ( according to mech- all seams ok)

Car drives very well, not smoking, no hesitation or any other issues
only this irritating kluk kluk (knocking noise)

Any help will be appreciated..

not perhaps piston slap or small ends?

could even be a noisy gearbox...

you are welcome to come over if you want me to take a look.

Would have, but based in ct.
Mechi is now going to change oil filter housing or something to that effect, lets see if this solves the problem.
He says that it is difficult to diagnose as it only happens when car is hot.

If most of those parts you listed were changed in response to the current problem you are having, then you need to find yourself a new mechanic.

Is your car auto or manual?

Who are you taking your car to? Perhaps I can recommend some one that knows what they're doing.

@LPM 320- i think so too- however, made it very clear that im not paying until the problem is solved- i didnt ask for him to change all those parts.

Diesel fan- please pm details of reliable mechanic in CT.
