BMW E46 318i 2004 intermittent starting problem

Hi There,

I have a 2004 facelift BMW my car seems to have a starting problem. The car charge on battery is 14V, the battery voltage is 12.5V. The car starts 7 out of 10 times no problem. When it does not start the motor turns with without starting. If I turn the car off and try again the car just make a clicking noise and does not turn after that. If I run start the car I am on my way again with no problem. The car starts after that again?

What could the problem be. PLEASE HELP.

Have your battery tested had a similar experience, let them check if the voltage on the battery drops rapidlly whilst the car is off.

Agreed. I don't think fuel pump or CPS will cause the starter to engage or not engage.

If not battery - starter or flywheel. Probably the bendix on its way out = new starter.
