BMW E39 530d Expansion tank leaking, where and how much ?

SO after the short trip from the shop to home, I noticed the temperature just slightly higher than the normal "vertical" position.

When I shut down I could hear a "hissing" sound, so investigation time

Discovered a fine steam spray coming from the expansion tank on the gap where the white plastic meats the black plastic.

I have removed the tank, and so I decided to see if this could be a D.I.Y. job by seperating the two halves and possible "renewing" the seal between the two.

There is just no way to seperate the two halves, short of total destruction

right no its FANATIC HELP time.....
1)Where would I source this part, other than the "stealers" or a scrapyard
2)What would be the average price I am looking at for a replacement.

part number on the base seems to be 2248050

will do a search on RealOEM after this post

CHEF ...where art thou ??

:fencelook:

I tried using a soldering iron to melt along the seam to get the two pieces of plastic to fuse

it looked OK

So re-fit, fill water, bleed system....wait for temperature to pick up

:cry::cry:
:argh::argh:

still leaking !!

DO NOT buy one from the scrap yard :thumbs:

Silverton Radiators may also stock it :thumbs:

However for piece of mind, get one from the stealers :bangdesk:

thanks....depends on $$$ though

been searching the internet for the last hour or so

G-Drive seems to stock a wide variety of expansion tanks, but none like mine....priced from around R600 to R1200

The US$ price at $79 would make it around R880 region, so if the "stealers" are less than R1000, then I will go that route.

I would phone the dealer, ask for a discount. It's an important part. Probably worth going OEM.

Not worth risking a cheap replacement. As they say "goedkoop is duurkoop".

Dealers will ask around R1300 or so.

Goldwagen I think has them for under R800. I can't remember exactly. You need to order though. They usually have them the next day.

+2 on no scrapyard and OEM.

It is a pressure vessel, any temp fix that you do is probably not going to last long anyway.

I have one that there is nothing wrong with out of a E60 that you can have, but doubt your going to be able to fit it without serious butchering

You can try the goldwagen stuff, but on this, I would go OEM..

That is pricey, I think they saw you coming from your shop and decided to make some moneys...

E46 tank is around R700 from goldwagen.
