BMW Bearing challenge

Hi Guys, newbie on the site but hoping for a miracle......

I have a 2008 E320d with 150k on the clock. Motor popped and so began the downward spiral.....

Basically, I am hoping for someone to point me in the right direction to find Big ends and Mains in SA.

I have an N47 320d motor and am needing to source a set of 30 thou Big end bearings and 10 thou Mains. I have tried everywhere local and have had the guys scouring the usual suspects to try source. Agents looking at 6-8 weeks delivery with a hefty price tag. Anybody have contacts on these?

Please help!!!

I haven't heard of a modern car doing this in forever?! What failed? Sorry I do not have any help for you but its interresting to have such a failure on these cars. I thinks its quite a scarce situation you are in and thats why your parts will not come cheap...

I know VAC motorsport do big end bearing and Main bearings, but I think it's only for the ///M engines. They are situated in USA. I have replaced all my S54 big end & main bearings with their coated performance bearings. They went into the motor at 110 000km. I then opened the engine this last December at 140 000km and checked the bearings, they are still in perfect condition.

Maybe its time to start searching for bearings overseas.

Mechanical failure on intake manifold... Carbon buildup dislodged a spring, holding a pin on the butterfly. Came loose and dropped into motor. Apparently damaged valves and cracked a piston. Looked for a 2nd hand motor for about 2 months to no avail... Eventually found a mechanic prepared to work on the car and that was in August 2013! Story after story and we are now in April and still sourcing parts and no car... In the meantime, oil pump replaced and crank pulley replaced.

Thanks m0lt3n..................

The car is stock standard = zero mods... Majority of kilos are between Port Elizabeth and Mosselbay = Long distance travelling. The car has never been driven hard, its automatic and I'm a lazy driver... Have always used premium 50ppm. I do believe this is a very rare failure indeed......

The culprit...

Good luck Denton, I cant help, but do hope for your sake the contacts the other guys gave you can be of assistance.

And a bump to the thread, if someone else has anything to add?

Also, pls report back when all is done and dusted?

(I actually cancelled my aftermarket warranty, this is disconcerting)
