Hi,

Can someone please direct me to a good BMW "after market" service center in Cape Town. I just need to do a service.

Thanks

Auto Atlantic. Better than any "after market" service center and nothing more expensive. I have seen it with my daughter making use of "after market" service centers. Sometimes they are more expensive.

In Cape Town and the person hearing R800 need some hearing aid!!:roflol:
I have seen one of the "aftermarket" centers charging my daughter R600 to remove the fuel pump on a E36, Was handed a new fuel pump which the only had to iinstall. Ten minutes work and no parts.
Also if 90% of people buy a second hand BMW they will ask to see the service history. They will not feel too happy if it was stamped by anybody including a stamp that I can make myself if I service my own car.
Having your car serviced by a dealer continuously will also be proof that the kilo"s is genuine as they keep it on a universal BMW system that can supply you with a history.

I am in cape town. Dealers charge R800 an hour. Is there something you don't understand?

Of course there are some dodgy workshops. But that doesn't make them all bad because you had one kak experience.

And no, full dealer history frightens the shit out of me. Car serviced every 25 000kms but I suppose if that makes you happy then ok...

That's why on the stamp you'll have a name of a company and a phone number... It will take you 5 mins to pick up the phone and call them... and if you're really in doubt you can visit said service centre.

But each to their own.

Seems to me you know more about the service requirements of a BMW than the engineers who designed BMW !!!
So cheerio!!

Now I will ban myself and say

Whahahahahahha ok. Because bmw want your car to last out of motorplan. Ask anyone semi knowledgeable on the forum how long your service intervals should be.

Seems to me you can't argue a point.

SO what is the verdict here? We just serviced my wifes Mercedes in motorplan and we had to pay 50%. It was a minor service and we had to pay R2500. Tat is R5000 for a minor service. If BMW is the same I would prefer to go to a aftermarket.
In the past I had a real bad experience with a forum sponsor. Can somebody that has used the garage 808 please give me some feedback. I don't want to all into the same trap. This is the first service out of motorplan.

Well we did warn you about Promotec, but you chose to rather insult us and throw your moola down the drain :roflol:

I took my car in to Brilliant Mechanical Workshop on Friday for a minor service.

Cost me R1 100 for a minor service of which the majority was the 7L of oil that went into the car.

The car is back now for an intake vanos and timing chain tensioner replacement. All covered by my third party warranty and I'm having no issues with them.

They strictly work on BMWs as well which was comforting for me. They're in Claremont opposite Kenilworth Center.

So far - 10/10 would recommend

Well I have trust issues when it comes to production servicing of cars ( get in change oil quickly slap spark plugs in etc get out ...next !!!) so service my cars myself , take my time in letting all the oil drain out over night , putting some copper slip on the spark plugs, torque everything up to specs etc etc . Than at least I know its done properly and next time I wont need TNT to get my plugs out because Piet the appy was in a hurry to go on lunch break and just slapped the plugs in as is and fitted my sump plug with a Verimark gorilla spanner because Koos was using the 17 on another car. Then I take it to an AA approved service center with one of these specials on servicing , pay them as per service just to stamp my book and do a 54 point check ...

Then on the big stuff, if I can't work with you on my car or atleast see what you doing ...you don't work on my car , if you want my money that's my terms

When you say production servicing. Do you mean they mechanics get paid per job they do? Because that I have a problem with and that is how alot of dealerships work.

To further my point on not following bmws service intervals. My car is on 417k kms now. It has the original turbo which I had reconned now. Which was working fine but I did it as a preventative measure. The car has never missed a beat. It has only had the typical e46 cooling system problems. And the gearbox had been changed 3 times. Why? Because bmw uses "lifetime oil". And my engine oil changed every 10k kms.

Production Servicing : Getting X amount of cars in getting them out before 5.

Brothelship: Dealers paying mechanics per job they do
