Hey welcome.. I'm new as well.. Also hav a 530d just like yours... Rear brake pads and ventilated disks tend to go first.. I have the same problem with the restraints.. Auto Atlantic gave me the run around.. eventually it turned out to be a wiring problem under the passenger seat... apparent it's quick to fix.. but is problematic.. hence the problem coming back ..

Tell me how it goes..

Hi

I am about to get a an 2004-2007 e60 530d auto myself(still looking). I am not new to BMW, but I am new to their oilers. Any advice on what to look out for while shopping around? The restraint failure error, does it have a permanent fix to it?

I am already thinking to do a de-cat, re-map, intercooler upgrade and turbo refurbish soon after I get the car. Should I be planning anything else? Th heck are swirl flaps?

Also has anyone ever done an closed off the EGR on this car (plate and ECU adjust)? How much does it cost and where can one get it done?

I noticed the audio system in the earlier models do not have either USB or AUX ports. Can these be retro-fitted? Is it worth it or are there alternative solutions?

I test drove one last week (150kw model, no highway), and truth be told, it felt slower than my current manual 2.0d chevy cruze. Should this be the case?

Last question, can the odometer be tampered with on a car like this? The very same one I test drove was advertised with over 200k kilo's on the clock, when I drove it, odo was on 161k.

I have so many questions:sorry:
Thanks in advance for answering and helping

howsit, most of your questions have been answered previously, but since the search was giving us issues at some point I am not sure if it has been sorted out yet.

Things to look out for is the service history, have an idea of what was changed on the car and when, front suspension bushes will need some attention post Motorplan, dampner pulleys closer to 200k km, if car was not maintained and decent fuel used then injectors could also become an issue.

The pre lci have been known to suffer from swirl flap failure, but not so much the lci. I stand corrected, but the flaps are on the intake and regulate air and affects efficiency on cold starts.

There are many that blanked off the EGR, both using the pipes and via software, most tuners do this anyway.

AUX can be retro fitted, not sure about USB though

Could be a number of issues why the car is lazy, but it should not feel slower than your 2.0d. When i first got my E60 i also didnt think it accelerated that fast, but the speedo told me otherwise. Remapped they become a different animal.

I stand corrected here, the odometer can be tampered with but the actual mileage is recorded in more than one location that all cant be tampered with.

Thanks Sash for your quick reply.

Can you please give me a list of reliable tuners?

and also where I can retro-fit the aux input. I came across one today that had the full parrot bluetooth kit installed.

I make sure they all have a service history. I think a gearbox oil change and inspection should be in order for any auto over 100 000km.

Re-map is definitely on the cards.

browse our list of advertisers, there are others but most importantly read up on the guys that have done software and their experiences.

I dont know of any companies that do the aux retro fit, if you are handy with some tools it can be an easy DIY( i havent done it though)

Buy a Mulf and follow the guide I did on my 320d. That'll give you USB and BT.

I had my car done at OB from Chip Logic. Some have a love hate relationship with him but both Ash108 and I did our cars at the same time and I'm very happy with the results. Ash did a Dyno the other day and that torque curve is some of the nicest I've seen and it translates perfectly to what I'm feeling by driving the car. Good boost at low revs but the car maintains that power all the way to 4k rpm, very similar to a petrol but without the lag.
