BMW 520i F10 hot start, blowing fan and acceleration issue

Hello All,

I recently purchased 2013 520i, very clean but what I thought is quick fix is turning into nightmare.

Issues - hot start, cranks longer than it should and it take 5 to 10 seconds to settle. Cold start is aways fine.
On take off, it almost stalls, then it picks up and there are no issues once it's going.
Aux fan runs on high most of the time but it does go through different revs - so ramping up and down works.

Car is with the dealer - so far they have replaced water pump, thermostat, oil temperature sensor, checked coils, plugs and compression. Fuel pressure is fine, no faults but car is running rich. They have removed injectors, found them NOT to have a leak but they want to replace them with new ones.

I have checked MAF sensor, it lools like new, no contamination whatsoever (and it's not flagging any errors).

So...where do we go from here - I'm thinking that fan running all the time may have to do with rich mixture, they want to replace injectors and if that's not the problem, we leave them there and keep on looking at other stuff (basically replace things). Any ideas or perhaps you can point to someone who can do better than just replace parts ?

Thank you,
Alex

Stretched timing chain. Had a similar issue with a white 520i some time ago.

You getting drivetrain faults? Crank/cam sync issues?

I say let them carry on replacing stuff. At some point they will figure it out and you have lots of new parts.

I forgot to mention, they have checked timing, timing chain and VANOS too.Couple of years ago there was a campaign and oil pump has been replaced so they did the whole valvetrain.
On diagnostics, no errors, only that car is running rich.

I hear you, but it's been 4 weeks already...at this pace it will take a very long time.

Let them keep it and refund your money, sounds like you bought a lemon.
Walk away!

Plenty more F10's in the sea to choose from...

This is what happens when the car manufacturers make their cars so complicated that not even their own staff can work on them...

Rich fuel mixture can be O2 sensors are faulty or have been mixed around by incompetent staff.

I fix things (computers) for living - I don't believe in lemons, just incompetent people. Thinking to move it to another dealer.
O2 and cat was mentioned but they want to try injectors first. They are really trying, looking for donor car/engine so they can swop parts until they find what's wrong.

What dealer are you at? If you can, take it through to Leo Haese in Hatfield.

I deliberately didn't want to say which one, they are really trying and I don't want to give them bad publicity. I live in Sandton so Hatfield might be an option. Do you have any names for me there, when I call I'd like to chat to someone who understands what I'm talking about.
