Morning members.

Im new to the forum not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but im on the verge of purchasing a 2008 Bmw 335i A/T.

It has about 135k on the clock, anything i should be careful for when buying it, as i have heard some issues regarding fuel pumps etc on the 335i.

Basic Stuff to check:

Check if all recall items were replaced ie Injectors and HPFP

Check when the water pump was replaced. If it hasn't been replaced ever, save R10K when it goes, mine lasted around 140 000kms before going.

Check the service history

Check for wastegate rattle

Check the Motorplan history for common issues on the car

Check for oil leaks, specifically around the oil filter housing

Check coils packs on cylinder 3 and 2 for traces of oil, it may require a new tappet cover if there's oil on those coils from experience.

Test drive the car through the RPM range in 3rd and 4th Gear to pick up any missfire, if there is a miss it may require new plugs, coils packs or injector/s

Hope i didn't scare you

Lol...

Thanks so much for the reply.

That is a lot to take in all at once. .. :dunnoanymore:

I am buying the car from a close friend of mine, and as far as i know there hasn't been any issues that you stated below.

But then again, if it hasn't broken yet that means it still needs to ?

Most of these issue will not be visible unless you know what and where to look.

Also check the codes on the cars DME that may be stored.

Rather have these checks done and know what you getting yourself into.

Thanks so much for the advise.

but otherwise generally are they reliable cars?

i currently have a 330d and touch wood haven't had no major issues and already sitting on about 200k km. i really want the 335, but if its going to keep me stranded then its not worth it.

If he is a close friend of yours, then surely he would of mentioned if there were any big issues to worry about. Doubt it will leave you stranded. For peace of mind i would just go for it, then take it in for a full check up, and give it a lekker service and cleanup.

135k isnt really high for a bmw 6cyl engine, its more about how your mate has looked after it

I have called him a few minutes ago, and he says he hasnt changed or done any big repairs on the vehicle, he mostly drove it on weekends.

Think maybe i should just take out a external warranty in case anything big has to go on the vehicle. rather be safe than sorry.

But my heart is still on it, and think ill still end up going through with the deal, i wont be doing much mileage on it anyway.

The stuff i mentioned wont all go at the same time.

My car is also driven on weekends 07 model and water pump went around 140 000kms.

A wise man would check the car and then buy rather than buy and then check the car.

There are plenty of threads were people had big 335i repair bills without doing any research on the car.

If i were you pay for a Dekra or AA check, worth the money.

Did he own the car in or out of Motorplan?

he owned it out of plan.

but the list he gave me of repairs are brakes( which is general) all the oil seals, gearbox service and fuel gauge sensors.

other than that he says he maintained on time and no issues.

And the recall items?

fuel pump was done, not the water pump . as per the service book.

He only has the car for one year.

Check if injectors were done on the recall.

BMW should replace them at no cost

What akash is saying is 100%

Same on my side waterpump went, replaced waterpump and thermostat 10K all in, also when checking the injectors ask BMW what index they are.

Either than what akash is saying not much more to add.

Get a good warranty. If stuff goes south at least you have a buffer then to assist repairs.

Also, keep checking you bank balance. That comes in handy to play around.

Does the Dekra or AA check go into the required detail to check this sort of stuff though?

Like is someone is interested in an N54/N55... who would the best people be to check these cars, to cover everything mentioned above and more?

So iv decided to take it :smilebounce:

Going to do the paperwork in this week. Managed to get a good warranty with it as well just in case.

Done some research on the vehicle with the previous owner as well, said that injectors and pump was all done by BMW and has the receipts which he emailed to me.

Gonne miss my 330d though... :blueCry:
