Hi guys

Hope you can help me out
Got a bmw e90 330d automatic m sports
Mileage 200 000km
Has the zf 6hp26 gearbox

Bought the car second hand and it was already broken
Car drives fine when cold but after about 15 mins the orange/yellow gearbox light comes on the dash and the car goes into 2nd or 3rd gear and limp mode
Launch scanner gives park position sensor fault and the tranny temp is 100°c

The sump was damaged so the mech put in another sump

Oil cooler thermostat removed as well

Car doesn't feel as if the gearbox is slipping because it drives normal when cold, maybe a bit of a hard downshift

Couldn't find a gearbox overheating thread

This is my first post

Thanks in advance

hmmm mine sits around 97C.. the guys at ZF told me the overheat probs starts around 120C..so i think its probably just the switch that is the issue. i had this problem on a 5HP19 about 2 years ago when my car just ticked over 159,000km

Hi Fanatics

I need some help....

Bought a E34 525i (M20B25) not too long ago, was running fine in the cold temperature (toward end winter) but now that it's warmer it seems like my gearbox (4HP22) is overheating. :thumbdo:

I drive approx 36 kms to work and in the morning she runs fine to work. When driving home after work she seems to get stuck in a gear or maybe even between gears and doesn't wanna go anymore. I have to stop and start again and then she's fine for a short while. Sometimes she doesn't wanna start after stopping or idle then I have to wait like 15-20 mins before she starts again.

I think it has to do with the gearbox overheating coz she doesn't get far when driving her in the heat.

I have replaced the gearbox oil (used Winn's with Dexron 2) and when it still happened I cleaned the strainer in the gearbox and replaced oil again (used Castrol with Dexron 2). She was fine for a while but did the same thing again this past Sunday.

Not sure if the next info would help but, before changing the gearbox oil, she would take long to shift when below operating temp and after changing the oil she would shift much easier and smoother even when below operating temp.

I have read up just a little on this and some guys suggest a fully synthetic gearbox oil as it keeps the temp down. Would this help and if so which one do I use?

I really like this car and really do not want to get rid of her :blueCry:

Hope I have given enough info.

Please help if you guys can.

First thing, dont hijack someone else thread, not cool bro, rather start your own thread
Second thing go see Jaco from Autotrans SA, he is a wizard with these thing and should be able to sort you out.

My bad bro, I can not seem to start any thread or maybe I'm just dumb and don't know how to :blowheart:..... squash that, I just figured out how to.... (Admin, can my post be moved to a new thread or do I have to start a new thread?)

Where is Autotrans SA located and do you have contact numbers for him?

:ty:
