BMW 320i performance

So I wanted to ask the experts a question. I've noticed something after the turbo and timing chain was replaced.

This morning, on three separate occasions, I put my foot down flat (before the kick down) at 60-70km and before I used to get this sudden surge of acceleration which always felt great. This morning I put my foot down and it felt like a flat spot - it just gradually built momentum and it felt really, really slow.

Then I tried again at another point in time, and the car gave me the sudden rush of acceleration. The acceleration seems to be very inconsistent. The SMG BMW foreman tells me the rapid accleration depends what gear the car is in.

But this has happened on a number of occasions. I'm wanting to overtake and then I get this gradual, linear increase in speed which just takes me by surprise, it's so disappointing. Other times, this doesn't happen. And I've tried at low times at or below 80 km per hour.

It's like when I put the foot flat down the gearbox drops by 1 gear, instead of 2-3. Its just a weird feeling if anyone has experienced it. So BMW SMG said the next time I bring the car in they'll have the technical manager go for a ride. He will drive the car as well, but the foreman tells me that if the car was lacking power their diagnostic machine would have picked it up.

Have any of you experienced this with your F30 320i? That dead/flat spot where you expect the car to move/sudden surge only for the car to move like a donkey?

I don't know if I should put my car on a dyno...

i am assuming your car is an auto.
What mode is the gearbox in? when you tested.
Perhaps set to normal and go for a ride and try it. then do the same route but in sport mode.
tell us if you can feel a difference.

I was driving in Comfort. Yes I have an auto box. I tried Comfort and Sport. Sport did the same thing.

But like I said, other times whether in Sport or Comfort, I get the sudden rush so I don't understand it.

I think you need to book the car in at SMG again, the work , if carried out by them, should still be under warranty. Make a detailed list of the issues you are having and tell them to sort it out.

When you go to book the car in take a drive with the Foreman/workshop manager in the car, but you drive it and try to duplicate the issue, then let them drive it afterwards.

Hopefully they will be able to see the issue and double check the work they did.

If you are in sport mode and it still does this then its not normal. Get a second opinion at another dealer.

You should get a kick even in comfort when that turbo kicks in.

I get a kick in my 320d even in comfort.

You cant compare a 320d to a 320i. 320d is way better :smilebounce:
