Riaad has made some suggestions in a PM about the next steps...I will copy and paste it in, If theres anything else that anyone else would like to add please feel free to do so
This was from Riaad:
Howsit Bud,
Yeah generally buying a used bmw can be overwhelming at the start…luckily the 20/30d’s are reliable so that gives you time to get to things.
Personally, I will leave all cosmetics (like the bumper re-spray for last …well till you know the mechanical stuff is sorted)
The very first thing you should do upon ownership …is getting the car properly checked out (suspension, engine…leaks, brakes, disks etc), the miles are low on this car, so I don’t anticipate any issues…you may have a possible boost leak (generally the seals get worn out…not something that will break the bank). Depending on the report back…that should determine what needs to be looked at.
Assuming, everything is good…I’d start with a service (unless it was done in the last year/10k kms…you want to be servicing every 10k kms on these cars).
Next up…ZF service, 1. Cause its on special, 2. The sooner the better in my opinion …but generally anytime before 100k kms is fine …but get this done…atleast you will know if the gearbox is healthy and will be something else you don’t have to worry about afterwards.
Don’t worry about the tyres unless they need changing. These cars make a lot of torque which is very additive (read…tyre hungry). Runflats are rather expensive …I have the same tyre/rim setup on my e90…Michelin rfts (which are about the best rfts in my opinion) will set you back between 11-12k per set...normal tyres (nexens are very popular within the forum) will set you back around 5k for a set…but remember, the e90s don’t come with a spare wheel or a place to store them …therefore you will need to get a spare wheel kit and cart that around (bit of a speech as it takes up boot space) …in my case (I have a petrol e90, which doesn’t eat its rear tyres) I don’t think the saving in tyres is worth the inconvenience…what I can say with certainty …normal tyres are a lot better for comfort.
And now we get to the ModsFencelook…once again, see to it that mechanically, you are happy with everything. A Downpipe is great, actually reduces the strain on the turbo and gives a meatier tone to the engine, but most importantly, you want to get the EGR disabled…which requires Software …therefore, it makes sense to do SW after getting a DP installed…so you can get performance gains and the car will run healthier…a 330d has plenty performance in stock form, so I’d leave all of this for when funds allow.
