Does anyone know what this particular car should sell for? what should I be offering?

Whats the book value and retail value? (does it matter???)

In some of the earlier posts, guys mentioned that a <100k kms 320d msport retails around 150-160k ...so id say a fair estimate for a similar 330d is between 180-200k ?

Personally, I wont say trade really matters with these particular cars...as long as it is realistic (as in paying 300k for a car that has a book value of 200k...insurance becomes a problem)... low miles e90 330d lci's are not common occurrences in the market ...So just keep that in mind:thumbs:

"low miles e90 330d lci's are not common occurrences in the market ...So just keep that in mind" as Riaad said is key to remember.

These 330ds run high mileage very easily and reliably which is why you seldomly find a car with mileage below 100k km. I would personally pay R205k to R210k for that car ,absolutely nothing could compare at that price point in terms of practicality, consumption, performance and reliability.

Thank you for the response.

So I have spoken to the owner, he has agreed to 200k, final price.

I have done a online application with FNB, they have approved it, well the computer has, just waiting on a human being to confirm it all, but dont think it will be a problem.

Waiting on a forum member to confirm if he can go check it out in the mean time, as I am based in the Western Cape (actually the Southern cape), and the car is in PTA.

Can anyone please advise on after market warrantys? What do they cover, Cost to get one? any one in particular to get etc.

Thank you in advance!

Nice going bud:thumbs:

Depending on how the car was looked after...services and maintenance ...will determine if you need a warranty or not...generally on the 20d/30d ...things dont really go wrong, especially things that a mechanical warranty covers.

However, they are not costly ...if you want a safety net in case the worst has to happen:thumbs:

For that year model, you will likely fall into the lowest category...which is around r350pm (24months is the max) for a mechanical warranty (you can also add a top up package which will double the claim amount on certain items...these cost around r3k once off)

My suggestion...get the car thoroughly checked out...and take it from there:thumbs:

The costs I mentioned above is for the warranty I have on my e90 (2009 320i with 98k kms) ...so far ive been paying for it for almost 12 months and have yet to claim:hammerhead:...total cost is almost r12k over the 24 months...many forumites (esp diesel owners) prefer to bank that money and save it for a rainy day...in the end...it comes down to personal preference

Also...your finance house may insist a warranty is taken

Hi guys, just a quick update

Firstly I would like to give a big thanks to Schalk for going out today to meet with the seller and have a look at the car.:bravo::thumbs::ty:

According to Schalk apart for some minor "abrasions" to the front bumper, everything else looks clean.

I also called BMW, they have a service history on record till 58000km, the seller has said to me the car a FSH at BMW. (current kilos +/- 80000km), the guy at the BMW has also said to me that although he doesnt see any services beyound that, there may actually still be services done at BMW, I will have to bring the key in so that they can check. Also from what he could see there was no comments on any accidents.

So it looks good for now, Just awaiting FNB and it should be a done deal.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed!

Very nice car that one.

I went with Schalk to view it and was really impressed by it.

It's not an easy car to find, especially with that spec and mileage.

Let's hope the deal gets concluded in no time

:roflol: I was checking prices on tyres! (Damn they aint cheap!)

Perhaps someone can share their thoughts on this issue, does one keep the runflats or change them ASAP?

I'd change the runflats out for regulat tyres and just get a space saver sparee wheel kit to throw in the boot.

Regular tyres drive much better, are more affordable and at least you then have a spare should something go wrong.

Good afternoon to one and all, and what a good afternoon it is!

Finally the bank has approved the deal at a good rate as well! :cartel:

"Praise the Lord! Can I get a amen brothers!" :roflol::roflol::roflol:

Im super excited now...Cant wait!

Wanted to Say Thanks to Riaad and Schalk for all the PMs and responses, I really appreciate the fact that the okes took the time to respond to me, Thanks Riaad you are very informative :praise: and Thanks to Schalk for giving me so much of his time, this oke knows what his talking about! :praise:

Riaad has made some suggestions in a PM about the next steps...I will copy and paste it in, If theres anything else that anyone else would like to add please feel free to do so

This was from Riaad:

Howsit Bud,

Yeah generally buying a used bmw can be overwhelming at the start…luckily the 20/30d’s are reliable so that gives you time to get to things.
Personally, I will leave all cosmetics (like the bumper re-spray for last …well till you know the mechanical stuff is sorted)

The very first thing you should do upon ownership …is getting the car properly checked out (suspension, engine…leaks, brakes, disks etc), the miles are low on this car, so I don’t anticipate any issues…you may have a possible boost leak (generally the seals get worn out…not something that will break the bank). Depending on the report back…that should determine what needs to be looked at.
Assuming, everything is good…I’d start with a service (unless it was done in the last year/10k kms…you want to be servicing every 10k kms on these cars).

Next up…ZF service, 1. Cause its on special, 2. The sooner the better in my opinion …but generally anytime before 100k kms is fine …but get this done…atleast you will know if the gearbox is healthy and will be something else you don’t have to worry about afterwards.

Don’t worry about the tyres unless they need changing. These cars make a lot of torque which is very additive (read…tyre hungry). Runflats are rather expensive …I have the same tyre/rim setup on my e90…Michelin rfts (which are about the best rfts in my opinion) will set you back between 11-12k per set...normal tyres (nexens are very popular within the forum) will set you back around 5k for a set…but remember, the e90s don’t come with a spare wheel or a place to store them …therefore you will need to get a spare wheel kit and cart that around (bit of a speech as it takes up boot space) …in my case (I have a petrol e90, which doesn’t eat its rear tyres) I don’t think the saving in tyres is worth the inconvenience…what I can say with certainty …normal tyres are a lot better for comfort.

And now we get to the ModsFencelook…once again, see to it that mechanically, you are happy with everything. A Downpipe is great, actually reduces the strain on the turbo and gives a meatier tone to the engine, but most importantly, you want to get the EGR disabled…which requires Software …therefore, it makes sense to do SW after getting a DP installed…so you can get performance gains and the car will run healthier…a 330d has plenty performance in stock form, so I’d leave all of this for when funds allow.

Good afternoon,

I wanted to do a quick update to this thread, so here goes.

I was all excited not so long ago as I thought that getting my 330d was a done deal, however the lady assisting me to do the deal had to take family responsibility leave (FRL) as her child fell ill and was admitted to hospital. :blueCry: At this point the lady doing the deal just needed me to sign a DEKRA report and than she would do the contract and payout to the seller.

With her been on FRL, A new lady took over, she looked at the DEKRA reports and saw that there was one fault on the computer that DEKRA could not clear, she than put the whole deal on hold and said that BMW has to clear that fault first.:hammerhead:

The seller was really ticked off by now, but agreed to take the car to a BMW dealership, and he decided to service the car at the same time, (He paid for the service, coming to about R5000), so yay I scored a free service! :smilebounce:

The BMW dealership done the service but they said they cant clear the fault as the equipment they have will blow the ECU (Is this true??? :dunnoanymore: ), the fault that BMW gave was "problems with the high pressure pump and high pressure pump faults due to poor quality feul"

The initial lady has since returned back to work and she gave that report to the tech team at Wesbank and they said that this is nothing serious and that the bank should go ahead and process the deal. :bravo:

I just now received an email from the bank to say that payout will take place tomorrow, FINALLY!!! :cartel: (the seller will not release the vehicle until payment reflects in his account). So I now need to organise a truck to bring down the car from JHB to George, If any one knows of any trucking companys with good prices please lemme know, I have called around and seem to get prices ranging from R5000 to R6000.

Will post pics as soon as I have the vehicle.
