BMW 318Ti E46 help needed

Good Day Gents,

I have a problem with my 318Ti E46 again....last night i checked my cylinder 1 spark plug since the car was pulling sluggish......i found that it was covered in oil....what does that mean?

All the other 3 cylinders where clean as a whistle burning well (white).:argh:

Might be your tappet cover gasket leaking oil in there, mine almost did, but caught the problem in time and replaced the gasket. E46 325i.

+1 0n tappet cover gasket

i just remembered last time mech told me mine is also leaking.

i called for tappet cover gasket now.
goldwagon=R700
autozone = R230 odd for a payen gasket. they didn't have victor reinz, but i personally trust payen.

Morning, I drove my e46 318ti 2003 with our water and it blew the head gasket. I took the car to the mechanic, he skeemed the top gasket and replaced the head gasket, water pump and thermostart. after a weak the car started giving me problems to start espiecially when the engine is hot, I thought is timing but it is not. pls help

I have similar issues with mine, although it appears to running well other then a deadness at 400 to 2000rpm in first gear.

i can write a list longer then your arm of the shit that i have tried, but I have to say that I dispise BMW for this motor..

Even though the N46 is bolt for bolt the same as the N42, the electronics, and the combination of both VVT and Vanos as an experiment means that your life is going to suck if something goes wrong.

Let me know, Im very keen on what you find, any error codes ?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help on the previous occasion but i think i just went from bad to worst......My car decided to die and me and then managed to get it started again but now it sounds like a diesel motor.:argh:

I thought that it was my hydraulic lifters or my tensioner. Took it to my father last night and he thinks its a piston slap:bangdesk:. We hopefully taking out the motor again on friday.

Any ideas what it could be? Seems like i need to overhaul my motor......will it be possible to get another motor and transplant it?

If you want my cousin is a mechanic and very knowledgable on BMWs, he helped out with a few issues on my 330. PM me if you want his number, he is in the sandrift/ milnerton area

dude, i suggest you take your car to a bmw master tech. with all the money you spending you should not be guessing anymore.

Howzit people

I'm back again with another problem on my 318ti. I had a guy reset my timing since the car was struggling to start. After he set the timing with the tools my car doesn't wanna start at all. The car just swing but doesn't wanna take. I'm looking for a reputable mech that has proper diagnostic to come out to my house in Roodepoort Jozi.
