Hi
I have a problem with my E36 318IS
When i drive in traffic my heat always sits halfway where it should
However when i start driving the heat will drop to a 1/4

Should't it remain halfway?or is that normal?
Must a replace the thermostate?or must i sommer do a coolant flush?

This is probably not relevant but my citi golf does the same, but they are known to get hot. Again this probably has nothing to do with your situation.

Hey Leon, I also have a 318is...and mine does the EXACT same thing.
Mine also takes around 15 - 20 minutes to warm up from a cold start!!

Did you have your radiator changed recently?
Reason I ask is because this only started happening after changing the radiator (didn't notice it right away though).

I just had the radiator changed on mine. R860 from Silverton.
When I was advised what to do I was told to feel the core of the radiator. When the temp drops so much after driving you must check if the bottom of the core is cooler than the top by a large margin. If it is then change the thermostat.

The thermostat is relatively cheap I think sub R250. For peace of mind I would just change it.
