Hi guys

Help needed please in the Durban area.

Im looking to change my front and rear brake pads on my 220d F22. (2015 model).
The dealer (both Supertech and SMG) has quoted R2529,70 for front pads, R405,13 for sensor, R1682,29 for rear pads and R472,59 for sensor. With the labour and brake fluid, this is going to cost over R7500 / R8000. If discs need to be changed, then this goes over R10k easy.

I need help on 2 things
1. Do i try and use a good after market brake pad to save cost? Recommendations please. (Ive been told that FEBI brakes are a good brand to use by a parts salesman from an aftermarket vendor)
2. Can i have a recommendation of a good mechanic, preferably with BMW experience who wont charge an arm and a leg for this?

Thanks

Get TRW pads from Autoboys/Imcomex or try to source Textar/Jurid from one of the spares shops. I wouldn't advise Febi at all, you can get the sensors from GoldWagen. If you need discs, try for Zimmerman or the like, since they will last a few pad changes.

Contact Vee from Old Dutch Racing (ODR) for a quote on labour. He is reasonable, offers great advice and service.

I also need to do brakes on my 220d, I just purchased EBC Greenstuff yesterday from TrackRecon for R3k, front and rear pads. I was quoted R2900 for front pads and R2100 for rear pads at my local dealer, this was parts alone without fitment.

You can also contact @deago.parts@abmbmw for decent pricing on OEM parts.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. Im waiting on some quotes from Imcomex. Ive already got quotes on from Goldwagen for the FEBI brakes, they are considerably cheaper. Ive had mixed reactions to the FEBI brakes...some people say its fine, some say its not good enough to put on a bmw.

The part that puzzles me is that there are individuals who want to do the labour for almost the same price a the dealer. I dont see the justification for this, a tech working out of his back yard shouldnt be charging dealer prices imo.

Ill get a clearer picture when i get the outstanding prices. Ill let you know how it goes.
