Welcome to the forum.

What engine does the car have? If you do a search, you will find lots of threads that cover these cars, have a read through the sub-forum I just moved your thread to "X35 Fanatics" for more information.

Hi thanks it has a n54 engine in, and the engine light pops up saying engine fault performance reduced

Welcome to the forum.. as with all the turbo models. .

Get a upgraded Chargepipe :)
I am having an issue where the engine light is coming on and it says engine fault performance reduced what would cause that problem and how do I get rid of it.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the N54!

Where are you based?

They are great cars but the n54's in particular are quite maintenance heavy, but mostly once off things.
A small to-do list off the top of my head:
- Get hold of BMW and ascertain if ALL recalls have been completed.
- Upgrade your charge pipe
- check and replace all vacuum lines
- check and replace your serpentine belt (these often go and cause catastrophic engine failure)
- Get an Oil catch-can
- look into the JB4 plug & play system, it can give you all fault codes and ability to diagnose and clear as well as the MASSIVE tuning benefits especially when MHD stacked. You can contact Rennzport who is a forum vendor for additional info ([email protected])
- Check the oil filter housing for leaks, the seals often go and this leaks onto the belts and again, catastrophic failure.
- Check the water reservoir for any white spotting, these often blow the seal and would need replacing (agents)

That's all I can remember at the moment off the top of my head. The rest I can think of is modification related.

I am based in Cape town I don't know much about these cars this is my first car I bought so I don't know most of these things you are speaking about all I can say is that the engine fault comes on the idrive and it says performance reduced is that a real serious issue because it does not want to go off so what should I do it came on today and did not go off.

Welcome....did you buy the car from a dealership? If yes take it back for them to sort out. You can get it diagnosed and take that info with.
