BMW 120D Starting problem

hi guys and gels

hope you can assist me,
im busy buying a 120D 2008 BMW 1 series
the car does not start
had a maci and he done a diagnostics test and says
cyclinder one problem

is there anyone who can advise on what to do as I would really like to take it,
money is not a issue on repairing the vehicle
i had one before and that why I would like to purchase one again

Find another one. Or have the seller fix the issue. It's obviously costly if he hasn't fixed it. So my advise. Run.

he also says that he was quoted 18k to fix

If he doesnt have the cash to fix, and you still want it. Tell him you will pay for the repair, as long as the cost can be deducted from the purchase price.

If not, run. You have no way yo tell if it will cost R5000 or R50 000 to fix.

Those were my exact thoughts as well. That's not to say, that is the exact case. Just that it is possible that the vehicle has been neglected and not serviced or maintained correctly.

Maybe the OP has his reasons for considering the deal, but I'm with you on this one. I would walk away. IMO the risk isn't worth the gain in this circumstance.

Maybe the OP has his reasons for considering the deal, but I'm with you on this one. I would walk away. IMO the risk isn't worth the gain in this circumstance.

He's probably trying to get a good deal which there's nothing wrong with. But like you basically said fix one problem and another may surface. So you may knock 18k off the price for the repair and end up with another 20k bill for something else. And then you just paid more for a lemon than a clean example.

So you buy the car. Fix the 18k. Now you've never driven the car and you find the autobox is on its way out. Or the diff is making a bad noise. You're gambling like this unless you know the owner really really well.
