Yes it's not brand related but OBD-II

Cars from about 2001 / 2002 have the new OBD-II standard plug older ones with the round plugs may not work (the ones I've tested didn't)

Does this work on the ipad too? Got blueteeth on it, but will the programme work or do you have an app for it?

it works with wifi for ipad (not bluetooth).
i can get the wifi version for you but you must let me know.

WIFI version to work with the iPhone is R850. i cannot justify this price and cannot get it any cheaper.

the round plug to new plug adapter is R100 and i have stock of this.

No a 1998 car is not OBD-II compliant.... OBD-II standard was introduced in 2001
