have to disagree about the car being ugly

the coupe has some amazing contours if someone takes the time to admire it

Ja, I'm sure there are people here who can help him out.

He should just get the e92 M3 engine shoved in there! :p

"Here's to hoping the crank can be reused, and that all I am going to require is new bearings for it."

I don't think the dude knows that bearings are a common issue and the engine exploding is a frequent occurrence even if driven in a civil manner. Well I guess he will find out with the v10 :YesNo:

Hope this car can get back on the road again and be restored to its former glory.
and as above I agree , nothing ugly about it , the front end may look a little awkward but from every other angle it looks superb , to my eye at least.

It's busy getting it's new engine installed as we speak. Unfortunately everything from the old engine was pretty much shot. In the blog I mention about the crank and pistons, ya well they were only good for paper weights or wall ornaments.

The car should be back on the road before the end of the week, it's just needs to be reconstructed. Then it spends the weekend with me being detailed and Monday it's looking new (hopefully).

If it's any consolation, me too. Car has been off the road for over two years, and seeing as though it's now the only M I have, it's taken on greater importance. Once it's detailed I'll put some pics up here.

One thing I will say about this, you will be amazed at just how unique the parts in a Z4M are compared to an E46 M3. Just about everything but the core engine itself is different. From water pipes, to coolant expansion tank pipes, to plenums, to bonnet catches, you name it, it's different. Just waiting on parts from Germany now. Car should be back on the road in the next week. Probably going sideways.

Trust me I know - parts prices on a Z4M are painfully high vs an E46M3. :/

I got tired of searching scrapyards and trying to find stuff that was more like hay in a needlestack. So I just took the plunge. When checking part compatibility there is literally nothing in common and like you say, wildly more expensive. At least from BMW I know it's coming and I am not running around after a mythical unicorn. It's been a long process.

I agree, go with the agents and negotiate the pricing, sometimes you have to pay upfront or give a deposit, once you get known, they less cautious, as imported parts cant be returned...
