Hi all,

Just wondering, as I'm currently with Netstar...but what tracking services are out there and what do you pay?

I'm somewhat annoyed with the service levels at Netstar, so wondering if anyone has other experiences with other service providers?

Thanks

I haven't heard many good things about Netstar, I have always used Matrix (now Mix Telematics), never had any issues and often check the unit to make sure it's still working well, and it does. Currently paying R150pm.

There are other guys offering pretty good deals, one is a company called Selftrack.

One of my friends actually sell these units, they have multiple plans where you pay once off for the unit, and track it yourself, or pay a small fee and they keep an eye on the vehicle for you ect ect, no contracts.

I would rather pay once off and know the unit is mine rather than being tied down to a contract.

We have a transport company, so vehicle tracking is important for us.
Don't EVER use Matrix!!!! By far the worst tracking company ever.
We have had endless issues with them every single day, and we are tied down because of that stupid contract.
We are starting to swop our vehicles over to Tracker and so far so good.

I'll list them:

1. units weren't updating, took Matrix over a month to get units replaced.

2. Truck got stolen, unit removed from truck in under 10min, Matrix told us nothing they can do. Never send their retrieve team to the last known position or anything.

3. New units are installed in a day, but de-installation or replacing of units will take over a month and you have to constantly phone and hassle them.

4. We upgrade with Matrix to MIX3000 units, the new units they put in were never properly tested and we had only 1 unit out of 20 working at any point of time. They tell us we need to sign new contracts and upgrade to a new unit they released.

5. Even the "back up" units in our trucks don't work. So if a truck gets stolen, that's that.

We pay around R300 per month per vehicle, and the unit is only working once a month or so.

Interesting bit of information on Netstar...

New contracts legal terms and conditions stipulate a tracking and recovery fee of R8500.00 in the event of hijack or theft payable by the customer?

Does everyone do this?
