Is it not a little unfair to compare the 45 against the M135 due to the fact that the M135 is not a true M car… would the 1M not be a more realistic comparison..

We know why they did it though, hatch vs hatch….

Maybe up the power on the M135 a bit more, purely to be in line with the 45AMG and there is a true comparison…

Am I wrong?

Now, the 45AMG is probably a good car, but extracting that kind of power from a 4pod, how long is it going to last…. And AMG who loves big capacity mills going this direction is a bit odd.

shame that merc sounds pathetic against the mighty 6 :biglol:

it sounds really boring and disappointing where the 6 just sings along:joy::thumbs::praise: its as if the guy got into a 1300 car

but must say the merc looks utterly good love the wide body type look, think bmw need to add wide archers on the M135 give it some kind of 1M characteristics

other then that both cars are sweet  and whom ever gets to own either is damn lucky:bravo:

:ty:

one thing i picked up is that the M135 seems faster and more 'revvy' through the gears where the merc seems slower

am i imagining here or did someone see the same thing

this video is confusing to me

Look I was in an A45 around Kyalami two weeks ago, and I've been in the M135i around the same track. To me the A45 is really a phenomenal car and its faster.. Way faster especially to someone that isn't sebastian vettle . The understeer thing is so marginal and can be corrected so easily its not even worth mentioning, its nowhere near the terminal understeer you get from an RS3. I don't get how guys can go on about understeer if majority of the forum members has never even experienced understeer or oversteer. And although almost all of you wont agree, how many of you have been in the Merc before saying its worse? Seriously.
Guys first go drive one and then have a go at it. Lets agree to disagree. And yes you can go put spoilers and wraps and stuff on the M135i in the same way you can photoshop of makeup an ugly girl to look phenomenal. Yes there will be new M cars in a year or two, that will level the playing field.. but at what cost? im not saying in anyway the Bmw is a crappy car, to be honest i think its brilliant , very fast, fun and a pleasure to drive but for buying right now...my money will go to the A-Class. Its just my opinion. I suppose each to their own. I dunno looks pretty good to me from the back.

I simply dont have the means to test drive every car on the planet and reach a verdict, nor do I have the skill to effectively extract what a car is about in one day, I need to have a car for a few weeks before I get to the point where Im comfortable in pushing it. therefore I rely on well known and respected car enthusiasts and journalists from around the world to give a verdict. and if that verdict is unanimous, then that becomes simple. One car is better than another. the BMW is brilliant correct, we are talking of the A45 being less than a second faster on track.. less than one second.. for a full blown amg car vs a M performance car.. now the A45 does do well on the body control, but that same body control on our beloved SA roads (as everybody is keen to point out) will be a spine jolting ride. I disagree about pushing an awd car to limit vs RWD car, its really easy to push these cars, they have electronic aids, its only in the wet the awd will show some benefit (but then you shouldnt be driving like that in the wet, because aquaplaning doesnt discriminate).

BMW Power.

Also make no mistake, the M2 will set a new benchmark, it wont be leveling the playing fields. the 1M already destroys the A45 on tracks.

The M235i is rumoured to be coming with optional LSD, I suspect this will be enough to best the A45 on a track.

Agreed.
This is a test done by seasoned professionals. I do, however, concede that there is nothing quite like testing the car for yourself and experiencing what the car is all about in each circumstance, but for those of us who are unable to, why not rely on these professionals who make a LIVING from doing such and giving an unbiased opinion.
This whole situation is tantamount to going out and testing every single appliance you are ever interested in, it just isn't feasible, so you do your research and market reviews and narrow down the decision from there, and 9 times out of 10 you take the one that has most if not all you looking for and quite often, that's what the professionals themselves have put forward, Samsung S4 is case and point.
Anyway, I digress.
Seen as you have tested both, you yourself should know that the ///M135i is the better drivers car, all day everyday in comparison, as so agreed upon by ALL the testers.
I know where my money would go.........the M235i or the M2. No doubt. If push comes to shove, MAYBE a 2 door M135i

They should be comparing it to a 1M or RS3 not a M135i

But i cant wait for this on the road, then i will chase one down and see how it does

I'm sorry, but the A45AMG is not a true drivers car. An awesome car nonetheless and very easy to drive very fast around a track. And it does look very very good.

Mmm ok fair enough, I get it no matter what the outcome of whatever test the M135i will be the better car, because... Just because hey?
Lol im starting to get the logic.
Everyone has been going on about the M135i not being a proper M car yet its easier to drive and faster than the 1M in many situations???Like Mr Harris quite rightly stated in his comparison of the M135i and the Audi RS3.. " if it sounds like an ///M and goes like an ///M, then it must be an ///M". Also its a newer car with later tech in it which is understandable and also expected. The 1M isn't that much faster around a track either, in fact is minuscule and there are tracks that the M135i has faster lap-times including the Nürburgring , so if they compared the A45 with just the 1M every BMW driver would be whining about it being older , so again, there is no pleasing some people.

One has to look at what is on offer now, the M2 will only be out in 2015 and by then the A45 will be more than 2 years old, are you going to have the same comment in defense of the Merc if it turns out to be faster than the M235i which is also not a proper M car? I think not. By that time The A45 black series will be here with over 300kw and 500Nm... Mmm somehow I don't think your anticipated annihilation will happen quite so easily, it will be a closely fought battle.

I cant understand that some of your guys are blindly bias and find every possible excuse to undermine a great little car. As a fellow petrol-head and BMW fan I find it little narrow minded in the exact same manner when many people on here will shoot the Renault Meganne RS down as not being a drivers car, yet the RS around a track is very fast and in some cases faster.

This brings the question: what exactly is a "drivers car" then? Is it about the controllability and reward from a car around a track? The engine sound being a pure nirvana to the drivers ears? Or the ease with which it handles everyday driving? Or is it just becoming an excuse to discredit another car as being inferior if it loses out on some aspect of a driving?

The sound being better in the M135i: hope your not referring to the FAKE sound being played through the sound system of the M135i?. Anyone can make a car sound great if you play fake engine sounds through a stereo system. A bit disappointed that no one wants to bring that up with the sound debate and just shoot the A45's sound down as sounding bad, trust me in real life it sounds a LOT better than on you tube (Trust me on this one) I love the straight 6 engine sound but was upset to find out BMW found it fit to make majority of the sound one hears inside fake, why not just fit a better exhaust system? (Make mental note to self to include this as excuse for the lesser "drivers car" comment) because id rather want the real sound than some sound box playing over my stereo. We could go further and play V8 AMG sounds through the A class's sound system too. Will that help ease pain?

Im not picking fights with anyone and I'm not trying to discredit any car. My opinion is that the A45 is wonderful car that, to my eye looks and goes better than the current offer from the Bmw corner, even as a drivers car, because I'm a driver and the things I enjoy in a car, it will offer in bucket loads . Thats all. I mean credit where it is due, this is Mercs first attempt at an AMG in the compact class segment and as a first attempt its a pretty bloody excellent first go.
I am a big BMW fan and nothing will change that but I'm also a realist and petrol head.
With that in mind just remember "///M" is only one letter in " AMG" ;)

Lol at that last bit. Very clever.
I agree with u on most aspects there...around the track the A45 AMG is probably better even if difference is not do much. But as a car to live daily with it can't match the M135i.
Each to their own, overall the A45 amg is a better car probably but then again price suggests that too right?

I still think the M135i is one of the better cars to come into production over recent years...

In my opinion any 4wd car will feel a bit boring compared to a rwd car

Fun factor is much more on a car going sideways
