Auto dimming mirror

So I drove my brother e87 120i and noticed the rear view mirror isn't auto dimming anymore.

Anyone know the possible causes?

Hmm , How did you notice it?

I can never really notice if the mirror on my E46 is auto dimming or not .

I always drive with the rear shade up so even if someone has their brights on behind me , not much light comes through (though I can see them and everyone else)

The OP gets flashed a lot? :fencelook:

Jokes aside.. I can tell.. It should start dimming quickly. Quick Google search yields that yes it could be a fuse or rear PDC module which also interferes.. Interesting..

Yea. Being an in a neighbourhood that most driver own Toyota hilux I get that light in my face constantly.

Any idea which fuse it is? For the life of me can't understand why bmw used pictures instead of words on their fuse diagram

My pdc seems to be working 100% though. Any ideas how to test?

I know to test if It's dimming is by putting your finger over the front facing sensor (the one on the mirror facing the windscreen, but not the one on the wind shield ). It should dim.
Done that test and it doesn't react in the slightest

Hi !

Tested my mirror in your method above and it works , gets really really dark , I guess the sun shade does drown out much of the light . Thanks so much.

From your Diagram , Check fuse 5 and 19 . Its the picture with a black dot and 3 lines pointing up , .))) , something like that . Its above the house with a P picture .

I found this info here
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e6...nvertible-m6board-com/167202-trunk-fuses.html

Scroll down , there's a picture at the bottom , Its for an M5 but the pictures should mean the same thing on all models. Might help with other fuse issues as well.

Hope it helps.

It could still be a loose wire somewhere, If you could possibly remove the mirror and attach it to another car and check , might save you from having to buy a new mirror .

I hear that these mirrors leak from time to time , but never really heard of the electronics going bad.

Just checked those two fuses they fine.
So I assume my mirror itself is dead?
