Don't do it.
Extensive tests were done on M5Board.com with regards to this.
All the IATS kit does, is "trick" the ECU into believing it's getting cooler air than what actually reaches the MAFs.
This can cause timing issues etc if the car picks-up knock.

Rather just build a proper CAI.

Have done a lot of reading on this issue, the kit that nobody complains about is UFMotorsport S62 Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) Relocation Kit (v2) for the BMW M5 (e39)

The version 1 also gave problems, but was rectified with version 2. If you go and look closely, the guys that code with this mod have not followed the instructions as to where it and how it should be installed, they know better. The mod is mostly for warm weather, when you are in slow traffic (Nice for SA weather).

Also read here !

Which is why I don't heatsoak as much as you Ani. :)
It's got nothing to do with the fact that I have holes in my valance.

The fact is that the stock location for the IATS is not suited to our climate. The IATS reads the Incoming Air temps. If the engine is warm and added to our warm climate, the readings are mostly incorrect with the stock ones.

I have a rogue engineering IATS kit.

Good for the weather in SA, me and my business partner are both doing this mod, and he is very very skeptical about doing any mods of any kind, I to do a lot of research before doing something, and I think it is a must, I have already seen the side effects of not doing this mod. But will give you feedback as soon I have done this. They aught to be here by Wednesday:excited:

what are the side affects other than poor performance?

The mod fixes poor performance in hot weather, especially in stop go situations on the pull away, there is apparently a improvement in responsiveness of the car as well.

Just to come back to this issue, it really makes a big difference. My car just feels better with the IATS installed (Much more lively)

Ok! the sensor itself is not a Bosch part but a BMW OEM part, the part no : 1824111004

I tried typing that in real oem and nothing comes up?

Any ideas? Thanks
