Ashlin recently acquired a rather mint M3.

Car has 87k which look correct judging by the general condition of the car as well as the engine which has little varnish in it..

The request was that the car is given a thorough going over and whatever needs attention to be replaced or overhauled.

Vanos seals
Vanos rattle kit (even though it is not needed it is being done for preventative purposes)
Oil pump to have CNC holes drilled to tab dimensions.
Check cam bolts and confirm they are the new type and have had loctite on them.
Cams to be set (Spiro where is your tool come over and we will show you how to use it )
Oil filter
Fuel filter
Plugs
Compression readings
Camshaft clearances
Radiator and coolant flush
Check propshaft
Check suspension components.

I am almost certain that Ashlin is Fordkoppies twin :roflol:

Leaking power steering hose. Leak comes from the rubber and not the fittings.

QaCkejBh.jpg

Vanos solenoid wire not secured which will lead to cracking the solder joints on the PCB.

Most probably three or four oil changes by the agents given the kilometers.

Angel eyes wiring after we worked on it.

My story It took me 3 years to finally settle on a unique and unmolested M3. It took me by surprise as I was just about giving up and going to go for a 335 coupe. So I had found a 2006 M3 , carbon black too. I was an avid reader on the forum following up threads on the e46 M3. The information and the sincerety of most of the guys on the forum was awesome and showed a sense of family. So I decided to join the fanatics and introduce myself and my car. On that day I was introduced to Crash_Nemesis who shared a vast knowledge of these cars and had the threads to prove it. It was then that I decided to pick his brain about the maintenance and servicing of these cars. After telling me about his journey through to different mechanics,  he suggested that I visit A1exander and take it from there.  4 months later after a slower work schedule and returning from Brazil I visited A1exander to test the water so to say. I was greeted by a very calm knowledgeable person who showed great passion for his craft. We had spoken for an hour and I decided that this is the person I wanted to work on my car as A1exander knew exactly where I was coming from. I ordered the spares from Moranor who was efficient and effective. A week later i met Lysis and car was in A1exanders garage getting prepped for preventative maintenance.  I have been updated in detail with every event and every recommendation.I would like to say a huge thanks to all involved as there are very few places today where you can have peace of mind that your car is in good hands and you are not just an invoice number.  Thank you

I was looking at a E46 M3 before I bought my 135i. Stopped next to a E46 M3 en Edenvale the other night and gave the Oak a hiding with a Stock 135i when I hooked 3rd.

You clearly miss the point of what an iconic car is and I really could not be bothered to explain it to you.

If you wish to be a troll do so elsewhere......now go away.

Straight line performance is a rather One dimensional yard stick to a Three dimensional puzzle...

this thread is about keeping a well maintained future classic in great condition not about the merits of owning such a car...

If you want to debate *35 vs M3 please start another thread it is a bit irrelevant to this thread... although i think it has been beaten to death a number of times on the forum...

You're welcome to come try against my e46 M3. You won't have the same outcome I promise you. Also, you forget that you're racing against a naturally aspirated engine at 1800 feet above sea level. The e46 M3 loses over 40kw up here. Try race that same m3 at Durban, you'll be trading your 135i in so fast. Now lets not derail the point of this thread please. If you wish to argue your point you can start a new thread.

No need to get upset I wasn't dissing the Old Lady. I just don't see the point in Buying an E46 in particular. If I wanted a decent\Iconic "M" car I would have bought an E36 German Spec and tuned it. Cheaper then E46 + waaaaaay more power. E46 is not the most tuneable car either.

Power is not the most important thing, what BMW gave us with the E46 was BALANCE

Ignorant! Next thing you are going to say is don't buy a black M because a blue one tunes better?

Anyways, nice find and you couldn't have chosen better guys to sort out your M, they do magic.
