Are they really oe rims?

hi all, im going to check out a set of BMW 18" 193 rims on monday, the guy says they new and original. is there any way to tell on the rim itself if they really are original and not just a knock off? any codes, badges, signs?

it should have a code stamped on the inside of the rim

do you have any idea what type of code? i know it should say BBS inside but the pirates are getting quite crafty these days. they dont have peg legs and scurvy anymore

Why would the wheels have a BBS badge? The only OEM BBS wheels I am aware of are the M3 CSl's OEM wheels. If I find a set of ones&twos and it has a BBS badges on I would stay away...

The number on the back should be something like 36 11 8 036 933 or 36 11 8 036 934.

sorry i assumed all the M rims were BBS, lol i would have not seen the BBS stamp and got worried, thanks for the part numbers... thats perfect  great stuff

white box and they dont realy have much in the form of numbers, walk into BMW and ask to look at a rim, they will bring u one - they have to keep stock of at least one.
Feel the weight - the M rims are half the weight of any others.

Where do you get that from?

From what I have seen the M rims are no lighter than normal ones.

i think what ill do is shoot down to BMW, its on my way... i need to fight with them about my motorplan anyway... and ask to see a rim to check if there is any tell-tale signs on it. then ill go and see these "oem" rims...

thanks guys all this info really is helpfull.

That is probably best, but if it is really style 193's I doubt it would be reps, have never seen anyone making reps of them.

Well wouldnt bmw Oem rims be lighter as they are "light alloys? I would think they should be lighter then if they are reps made from steel? Just my 2c....

Oh Ok and another question sorry for jacking the thread but Does a lighter alloy wheel really make a diff in the cars performance?

Yes, but you will have to spend a lot to get proper light weight wheels. It is all about the rotational inertia, it depends on the weight and the distribution of that weight around the centre point of rotation.

You get Light and you get light, a proper BMW M rim is in the region of 15% lighter - as it is made of some extra harder alloys which is a bit more expensive so not cost efficient to put them on all the BMW range - hence the M badged rims being exclusive.

They are however all Spun cast with different grades of Alloy - now if you wish to go much lighter you would go for a Forged rim that is much stronger and a lot lighter still.

Here is a link I think should be a sticky on the front Page... http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

so i got the rims today.. all seemed good.. part numbers, badges etc... they are made by Borbet will post pics in a bit.. i got for 6k still in the box with packaging and all. i dunno if that was a good price? seemed so to me...

thanks so much to everyone that gave their input.. really appreciate it gents.
